CASTING COMES FIRST TODAY

... Joss Whedon's potential ABC drama Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., hot off the success of Whedon's film The Avengers, has cast another agent. Following the news that Clark Gregg would reprise his role as Agent Phil Coulson, ER's Ming-Na Wen has signed on to play Agent Melinda May. May is described as a dang good pilot and a weapons expert. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Rescue Me's Adam Ferrera will recur on Showtime's Nurse Jackie. Ferrera will play a cop and potential love interest for the titular pill-popper. [TV Line]

... The Vampire Diaries has finally found Bonnie's dad Rudy. Actor Rick Worthy will play the witch's father and show up in the tenth episode. You'll recognize Worthy from Supernatural—in which he played the Alpha Vampire—Heroes, and Battlestar Galactica. [TV Guide]

... The Big Bang Theory's Penny is getting a new classmate. Ryan Cartwright, who is currently killing it as Gary on Syfy's Alphas, will guest-star as Cole, a school buddy who befriends Penny and makes Leonard jealous. How awesome would it be if Gary sat in Sheldon's spot on the couch? [THR]

... Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter will both guest-star on Netflix's revival of Arrested Development. Their roles have not been disclosed, but Richter previously appeared on the original run as identical quintuplets. [TV Guide]

... Actress Garcelle Beauvais has been let go (freed) from her gig on TNT's Franklin & Bash, where she plays played Hannah. Apparently the news was a shock to her too, as she said she was "stunned" in a tweet. Make that #stunned. [TV Line]

YOUR DAILY SCRIPT ORDER NEWS

... NBC has ordered five more scripts of its comedy... Guys With Kids. It's a sign that NBC isn't ready to cancel the show, and now that Whitney is on deck to share its hour-long block on Wednesdays, Guys With Kids may stick around for a while. Guys With Kids is about guys with kids. [THR]

FAMOUS PEOPLE SELLING PROJECTS TO NETWORKS NEWS

... Charlize Theron, who is alright looking, is developing The Clan at ABC. The drama is set in the medieval Scotland Highlands and follows various clans as they fight each other and also vikings. I'm assuming the executive who bought this just dreamily nodded at Theron as she said whatever she said and then just handed Theron a suitcase full of cash. [The Wrap]

... Zach Braff has also sold a project to ABC, a comedy called Garage Bar. The sitcom follows a group of friends whose lives change when one becomes a pop star. I'm assuming Braff put on a blonde wig and pretended to be Charlize Theron, but instead he had to give an actual pitch with slides and everything. Nice try, Braff! [Deadline Hollywood]

... The Daily Show's Jason Jones will topline a new untitled comedy project at Fox produced by Steve Carell. Jones will play a rich, family-free bachelor in New York who ends up with a couple kids when his sister is called into active duty. How does this not have a title? Guy With Kids, it's easy! [Deadline Hollywood]

... The American adaptation of the Australian dramedy Rake has found a home at Fox. As previously reported, Greg Kinnear will star in the project about a loud-mouthed criminal defense lawyer. [Deadline Hollywood]

NOW I CAN FINALLY WATCH THE VAMPIRE DIARIES NEWS

... Yes! The CW is putting its stuff on Comcast's Xfinity On Demand starting tomorrow. The last four episodes of its programs will be available for free, so you can finally get your Beauty And the Beast on! CBS is now the only holdout among the major networks to not put its programming on America's largest cable company's streaming service. [Comcast via press release]

What is CBS deal? I want to watch Person of Interest on Demand and CBS is being a Witch about it.

  • MissZag Oct 26, 2012

There are several CBS shows on Demand, but definitely not all. I always DVR the ones I watch on that network because it's a crapshoot, lol

And I'm really excited about the Highland Scots! Outlander book series anybody?? Love it!

  • TrueTvWatcher Oct 26, 2012

    Interesting casting news, can't wait!

  • zsandmann Oct 26, 2012

Damn Joss, if you didn't want to let me watch SHIELD, you should have just said so. I HATe Ming-Na, she has ruined every show she has been on. She only knows one way to act BITCH, I can not stand her. I believe she single handedly killed the Stargate series.

  • McNoodz Oct 26, 2012

Wow. Well at least one of you is a bitch. How about giving us a list of 'every show' she's ruined & how did she kill Stargate? The first 2 series were cancelled before she even filmed a scene on Universe. SyFy killed Stargate. SyFy killed Sci Fi.

  • zsandmann Oct 30, 2012

Eureka, SGU, ER, to name a few. She was also terrible on Two and a Half Men.

  • JT_Kirk Oct 26, 2012

I love Ming-Na as an actress ever since NBC's "The Single Guy", but man does she get cast as the evil bitch a lot lately, I hope that's not the case here.

Big Bang Theory: Penny isn't going to school, so would that be acting class? They haven't touched on that aspect of her in ages. Also, everything makes Leonard jealous, it's so boring to watch Leonard and Penny get jealous over each other, it's a sign of horrible hacky writing.

Andy Richter was so good on Arrested Development playing his twins that I can't imagine the show not being there without a callback to that.

Garcelle Beauvais wasn't bad on Franklin & Bash, but her character seemed to lose steam and thus purpose lately. It's too bad that they canned her without talking to her first though.

UNREAL! How the hell does NBC keep Guys With Kids around? It is 64th in the ratings with a 1.7... oh god, NBC's ratings are so bad that it's doing the same numbers as Up All Night and better than 30 Rock, no wonder it's not going anywhere as NBC fights their way to the bottom. Chicago Fire is in that same zone too, but it looks way more expensive so I'm still counting on the network to smother it (that's a fire reference, folks).

Jason Jones is great, but a single dad rich guy show? That is so not going to fly, especially on Fox. Naturally the new "kinder gentler" Fox (that is a '90s reference, folks) so it'll get 2 seasons somehow.

Greg Kinnear gets a job? Good for him! Been long enough.

  • bothcats Oct 26, 2012

Gary sitting in Sheldon's spot on the couch would make my day.

  • damasta414 Oct 25, 2012

The title "The Clan" isn't working for me. Maybe that's just because I'm black. : \

  • McNoodz Oct 26, 2012

'The Clan' works for me. The word itself, used in the sense the show is using it, predates racist north american fucktards by hundreds of years.

  • Blue_452 Oct 26, 2012

    I agree...epic naming fail...

  • Taccado Oct 25, 2012

Initial reaction about The Clan: would work as a cable show, but on ABC, not so much. However, if Charlize appeared on the show, I would watch it even if it was on the Disney channel.
