News Briefs: The Walking Dead Dominated the Ratings in Its Return

... The zombie apocalypse's first major victims might just be the major television networks. The Season 3 premiere of AMC's The Walking Dead on Sunday was BIG. More than 10.9 million total viewers watched the first airing last night, and the show's rating among 18-49 year olds was a 5.8. That's larger than any single episode of entertainment programming (i.e. non-special or non-sports broadcast) has scored this fall. Yes, that's more than Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, NCIS, and Beauty and the Beast. How long before NBC greenlights a zombie show starring Dane Cook? [AMC via press release]

... Syfy's Being Human will be back for Season 3 on January 14 with more monstrous roommate problems. Mark Pellegrino will be back to reprise his role as Bishop, but whether that's as a ghost in Aidan's brain or as a character back from the dead is yet to be seen. Also, Kristen Hager, who plays hottie blonde Nora, has been promoted to series regular status but we knew that already. [TV Line]

... HBO has announced the premiere dates for Girls and Enlightened: January 13. If you haven't seen Enlightened yet GET ON IT because it's great. As for Girls, I hate it but what do I know? [HBO via press release]

... Of course, the premieres listed above might not happen at all if the Mayans were right and the end of the world is nigh in December. More evidence that they were right? Bravo's Shahs of Sunset will return for Season 2 on December 2. [Deadline Hollywood]

... NBC is developing a comedy with reality star Rachel Zoe based on her life. So I guess it's about a woman who probably shouldn't be famous? [Deadline Hollywood]

... Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will both host the 70th Golden Globe Awards, scheduled to air on NBC on January 13. I can't wait for some Baby Mama sketches! [NBC via press release]

... Mark Pellegrino hasn't appeared on Person of Interest yet so the TV casting gods said "let's fix that" and got him a guest role on the CBS hit. Pellegrino will reunite with his Lost co-star Michael Emerson and play the head of a publishing empire later this season. [TV Guide]

... Guitarist Dave Navarro will guest-star on Sons of Anarchy as a gang member from Nero's past. [EW]

... CBS has extended its contract with CEO Les Moonves through mid-2017. The terms of the contract weren't disclosed, but I'm hearing from sources it was for an allowance of $13 a week. Hey Moonves, you're looking extra handsome today! (Raise?) [Deadline Hollywood]

... Mitt Romney canceled his well-publicized scheduled appearance on The View this Thursday because Mitt Romney doesn't have the spare time to talk to a bunch of lowly 2-percenters! Mitt's wife Anne will take his place. [THR]

That's pretty good for TWD...doesn't include all the ones who DVR'd and haven't watched it yet. Like

  • Big_Pecks Oct 17, 2012

Oh, Tina and Amy is great news too. I wouldn't watch the Golden Globe's if it had Ricky Gervais hosting.

  • Big_Pecks Oct 17, 2012

TWD has broken the same record 3 times in the past year. I'm glad that it's unstoppable.

  • JT_Kirk Oct 17, 2012

Tim, it's "Ann" Romney, not "Anne".

  • JT_Kirk Oct 17, 2012

Careful Mitt, you know what they say about Ann, you don't want to use her too much or folks will get tired of her. Oh wait, that wasn't "they" who said that, it was YOU! Jerk.

How awkward for Julie Chen would it have been if her husband hadn't gotten his contract renewed? It's the only reason she's on TV every day.

Ugh, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler together hosting? That is going to be painful, lots of stupid grins at half-baked, unfunny jokes; and self-satisfied smirks at soft gags; and sloppy, partly-committed, toothless bits. Luckily it's the Golden Globes so nobody will be watching and nobody will care. "Remember that thing Amy Poehler did on the Golden Globes last night?" "No, of course not, I didn't watch it. And you didn't either." "Oh yeah! Tra la la, la la la, la."

I have to admit that's something for TWD since AMC is still off of DISH. Definitely impressive.

  • ted2332 Oct 16, 2012

I wouldn't mind seeing Dane Cook get killed each week.

  • joeca1234 Oct 16, 2012

TWD was brilliant! Kept entertained and on the edge of your seat all the way through even though the story was still being told. Other shows take note, this is what you have to do stay alive!

    Yet you post? Why.

It`s true more people post when they have something negative to say rather than positive. I have no problem with people complaining about episodes or characters or storylines, But buddy you have`nt watched in 2 years so why even post?

  • meee223 Oct 17, 2012

Good question. Guess I'll delete it.

TWD was AWESOME....i have lost counting the zombies they have killed...

Glad that Shane is out of the picture....can't wait for the rest of the season!!!
