Open the Fancy Caviar! FX Renews The Americans for Season 2

Everyone, blast some Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits right now! FX has ordered a 13-episode second season of its new Cold War spy drama The Americans, making fans of good television very happy. Season 2 will likely follow the same schedule as Season 1, debuting in January 2014 if FX sticks with its plan.

The Americans is set in the 1980s and stars Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell as Phillip and Elizabeth Jennings, undercover KGB spies who are so far hunkered down in Suburbia, U.S.A. that they have a family, drink beers with their neighbors, and go shopping for cowboy boots like true Americans. Heck, they could probably even beat Jess, Nick, Schmidt, and Winston at made-up drinking games. While keeping their secret from their friends and kids, the couple also has intimacy issues, loyalty issues, and debates about whether a superpower just getting into space is enough. Also, the show used Fleetwood Mac in its pilot and it's fantastic.

FX will air a marathon of the series' first five episodes on March 1 beginning at 10pm, so set your DVRs (or stock up on Monster energy drinks and watch live) if you haven't had a chance to catch up. Along with the renewal, FX also announced the date of the Season 1 finale: May 1.

Let's celebrate with a dance party!

Very good news. Love Keri Russell and that how they make everything so authentic.

Haven't watched it yet, guess I will get started

Great! This is probably the best out of the midseason shows.

Shows without cellphones seem to do pretty well (Mad Men, Downton Abbey)...

As you can see from my user name, I am very happy about this. Good thing there is FX and AMC, and occasionally USA. Most of the time I think the broadcast networks have lost their minds. Or that the general public has. Or both.

    Spasiba, FX.

I hope they take it through to Yeltsin sitting on the tank. That should be about 5 or 6 seasons.

Great news. Now if they would just push Anger Management off a cliff, we could *really* party.

If they have to make one exception to make money so be it. If "Anger Management" is what keeps them from having to go the down the reality hole - like most cable channels are falling into - I can live with it. It isn't complete garbage and Sheen, Selma Blair and Shawnee Smith are all veterans and good television actors. Having Brett Butler, Michael Boatman and Barry Corbin as well makes a pretty solid cast. On his worst day Sheen is still better than the head of hair that replaced him at CBS.
