After 15 years, the world will again peek into Pee-wee's Playhouse

The comedy-variety show, starring Paul Reubens as Pee-wee Herman, will air on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim at 11 p.m., starting July 10. The network has purchased rights to all 45 episodes of the bizarre show chronicling the misadventures of the man-child Herman.

"I'd say this was a dream come true, but I never dared to dream the Playhouse would join Adult Swim's amazing lineup of cool shows!" Reubens said. "Well, maybe I did dream of it a couple of times. OK, it's a dream come true!"

"We're all huge fans of Pee-wee's Playhouse and we're really happy that it will be a part of Adult Swim," said Mike Lazzo, Cartoon Network senior vice president of programming and production.

Pee-wee Herman was created by Ruebens in the 1970s, when Ruebens was a member of the comedy troupe The Groundlings. Herman eventually became a huge hit in the Los Angeles comedy scene, selling out five months of shows. The first The Pee-wee Herman Show was adult themed and aired on HBO. It starred future Playhouse regulars Laurence Fishburne, S. Epatha Merkerson, Natasha Lyonne, and the late Saturday Night Live great Phil Hartman.

The Pee-wee character became a pop-culture favorite in the 1980s, starring in two movies, one directed by Tim Burton; the Playhouse TV series; and selling countless lunchboxes, toys, and other Pee-wee related merchandise. In 1991, Ruebens was busted by Florida vice cops after exposing himself in a porn theater in Sarasota, and his career as a kid's hero was abruptly ended.

Good for Pee Wee. (Paul Reubens) So what if he was caught in an adult theater, watching porn and doing something. He is a guy??? Dont all guys from age 13 - 99 do that? The police have never better to do, that spend money and bust an adult video store? Why are they not stopping drug pushers selling drugs to kids, or catch people that break into peoples homes. It nice to see he has bounced back, it must of been a terrible time for him and his family.

I will watch his new show

Great for people who get Cartoon Network. Not so great for people all the way in Australia stuck with free to air TV! I wish the mainstream would embrace Pee Wee again... he's the total **** and it's a shame the public abandoned him for one silly misdemeanour.

I'll be happy to see this come back because I used to watch it from time to time. I caught an episode last night in fact. :)

I used to watch this show with my dad and brothers when I was little. It's definitely the best show I've ever seen that was aimed at little kids.

This is my first time watching it! It's so stupid, but very interesting. I'd give it about an eight. This show is just so funny!

That is funny...caught for masturbating!...lol...but what else are you gonna do in a porno theatre right? oh well i guess i'll give the show a try since the movie's hella funny.

Personally, I think it actually does make sense for adult swim to have this show. It has tons of animation, it's bizarre, its a cult favorite, and lots of teens and adults love this show. It's perfect for the adult swim audience.

I agree with allsummerlong on the theatre thing. But I am sooo stinkin' happy that this show is coming back. Thank you so much, Andy Kaufman, for one of the most messed up shows ever shown on television. But what was up with the episode where Pee-Wee married the fruit salad? Poor thing... Besides, this actually might be a trainwreck again. YAY! You said the secret word! TRAINWRECK! Yay! I remember when he made French Toast... All he did was stick a piece of bread on the stove and spoke in a french accent when eating it... Good times, good times.
