Ugh, this is a really terrible loss. Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead today in New York City, according to The New York Post. Hoffman was 46 years old.

The New York Post says that Hoffman died of a drug overdose and was found with a "hypodermic needle still in his arm." Hoffman suffered a history of substance abuse, and reportedly checked himself into rehab in 2012. Other news outlets say the actor's cause of death has yet to be determined.

Hoffman was set to headline Showtime's upcoming comedy Happyish, a trailer for which was shown to reporters at the recent Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, where it was met with universal praise. In 2005, Hoffman won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Capote; he later earned Best Supporting Actor nominations for Charlie Wilson's WarDoubt, and The Master. Hoffman was also part of the Hunger Games film series and the big-budget blockbuster Mission Impossible III.

I remember seeing him in Capote. But I thought he was older than 46.

    RIP.

I was so genuinely shocked and saddened to hear of his death on the news last night; especially as he was so young. I always thought of him as one of the few that Hollyweird hadn't broken. He was such a truly wonderful talent, and I always tried to see him in whatever films he made. My, personally, favourite role was the Count in 'The Boat that Rocks' - he was the Count. His talent will be much missed and my sincere prayers and thoughts go out to his poor family at this terrible time..

A great actor who was consumed by terrible demons. Hopefully his children will remember their beloved father and his acting legacy and their time with him instead of the way he chose to die. Very Sad.
