Sony's Powers Adaptation Casts Sharlto Copley as Christian Walker, Michelle Forbes as Retro Girl

Sharlto Copley has landed the lead role in Sony Pictures Television's upcoming Powers series for PlayStation, the network announced Monday.

Copley, whose film credits include District 9 and Maleficent, will star as Detective Christian Walker, the dapper and charismatic main character of the comics on which the series is based. He'll star opposite Susan Heyward, who will play Detective Deena Pilgrim. Together, they're assigned to protect humans and investigate the Powers—people with superhuman abilities who battle each other above the earth.

Walker is described as having "the dissolute air of a faded rock star and the body of a battered heavyweight," someone "who jumps first and thinks later." Though he once had superpowers, Walker lost his abilities in a battle with a superhuman mass killer and now uses his expertise to help law enforcement officials investigate crimes in the Powers community.

In addition, Michelle Forbes (True Blood, The Killing, Orphan Black) has been tapped to play Retro Girl, the undisputed superstar of the Powers community who's an icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen.

Last week, the series also cast Eddie Izzard as Wolfe, a top-level Power who has spent the last two decades incarcerated in the Shaft, with his terrible abilities kept in check through a brutal regimen of surgical procedures.

Well, Susan Heyward looks nothing like Pilgrim from the comic, but she is pretty darn cute, so I'll allow it. I love Sharlto Copley so he's automatically great regardless, and Eddie Izzard as Wolfe? Had I not seen him on Hannibal I might not have liked this, but since I have, I'm pretty darn excited! As for Michelle Forbes? I really like her, but she doesn't seem like the best fit for Retro Girl at all, even if she's only there for a short period of time.

Whatever happened to the news that Jason Patrick was going to be Walker and that cute little girly from the T-Mobile commercials was gonna be Retro Girl?????
