Prince will play Super Bowl XLI

Eccentric purple rocker Prince will perform on February 4 at the Super Bowl XLI halftime show, CBS has announced. The game will be broadcast from Miami's Dolphin Bowl.

Prince is the third Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee in a row to perform the game's halftime show. Earlier this year, The Rolling Stones rocked the audience, and in 2005 Sir Paul McCartney favored the mass with his tunes.

In 2004, CBS was socked with a $550,000 fine when singer Justin Timberlake accidentally exposed pop star Janet Jackson's breast. That led to Jagger's microphone being silenced during risqué parts of some Stones songs.

The eye also announced last week that it was giving the plum post-Bowl time slot to crime-drama Criminal Minds. The gridiron contest is traditionally the highest-rated single program of the year. Last year's telecast on ABC drew more than 140 million people.

I'm betting that Prince is going to be even under MORE scrutiny from the NFL, CBS, AND the FCC during his half-time program. Just one "misplaced" gesture, or "unexpected" moment, and....well, he does have a tendency to "surprise" his audience.

Again, for the billionth time in a row, someone that doesn't fit the bill for "football". But hey, everybody likes Prince.
