Renovated family sues
A family that appeared on the Fox reality show
Renovate My Family
is filing suit against Fox, claiming the show made its house unlivable,
in addition to leaving the family with hundreds of thousands of dollars in bills.
The Rosier family of Lemont, Illinois, claims in its suit that the show's producers hired contractors that violated building codes and improperly installed handicap-access equipment for the family's son. The Rosiers say they owe nearly $800,000 in taxes and repairs.
"We are worse off and now more in debt than before Fox and everybody else came in to help us," Sharon Rosier told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The suit also claims DuPage County inspectors performed "hasty and reckless" inspections and that now the Rosiers are stuck with $250,000 in repairs, as well as a tax bill for more than $500,000 on home improvements that weren't finished.
After the suit was filed, Fox executives paused and had a moment of deep introspection about the impact that reality television is having on society.
