Renovated family sues

A family that appeared on the Fox reality show Renovate My Family is filing suit against Fox, claiming the show made its house unlivable, in addition to leaving the family with hundreds of thousands of dollars in bills.

The Rosier family of Lemont, Illinois, claims in its suit that the show's producers hired contractors that violated building codes and improperly installed handicap-access equipment for the family's son. The Rosiers say they owe nearly $800,000 in taxes and repairs.

"We are worse off and now more in debt than before Fox and everybody else came in to help us," Sharon Rosier told the Chicago Sun-Times.

The suit also claims DuPage County inspectors performed "hasty and reckless" inspections and that now the Rosiers are stuck with $250,000 in repairs, as well as a tax bill for more than $500,000 on home improvements that weren't finished.

After the suit was filed, Fox executives paused and had a moment of deep introspection about the impact that reality television is having on society.

It would be nice to see this family on Extreme Makeover Home Edition. How great would it be to see them tear down the Fox house and put up a proper house, and maybe take care of all their bills in the process.

I hope that family learns from their mistake. You don't go to a wannabe show if you want good results.

Seems to me these home makeover shows could easily be a disaster in all areas. Wouldn't it potentially increase the monthly bills? And then there are general upkeep costs. It could be a distaster on all fronts.

This show always was a poor imitation of the original Extreme Home Makeover show.

I sure hope that the family wins with this one. In Canada we have a show called "Holmes on Homes" . He comes to help out families who have been ripped off by bad contracters. He comes in and fixes up the house right. I think it would be hilarious for him to come in and fix up this families house.

I am in total agreement with Minor_Annoyance.

Heck reality tv isn't even reality.

Well, I've been waiting for this to happen--and I must say, I'm surprised it took so long for such a screw up to occur.
Oh well, their own fault for letting them do it.

Actually a family sued the people at EM:HE. The family whose dad was in Iraq...the very first family who got a makeover.
