Watch the Stylish and Spooky Trailer for WGN America's Witchy Salem (VIDEO)

As the great troubadour Donovan once sang with a velvety voice and probably a few puffs of marijuana smoke, "Must be the season of the witch." Indeed, spell-casting wenches have invaded television as of late, popping up on our favorite vampire shows, having their own little secret circles, living in the East End, and even forming all-girls schools in Louisiana.

With their popularity soaring, witches are as good as any subject to launch a network's run at original programming, and WGN America, known mostly for curses involving the hapless Chicago Cubs, is hoping hexes will charm viewers into checking out its witchy drama Salem. Starring Nikita's Shane West, Fringe's Seth Gabel (who narrates the teaser below), and Made in Jersey's Janet Montgomery, Salem is set in the famed late-1690s hotbed of witchcraft practitioners in Massachusetts.

For a first teaser for a new show from WGN America, I have to say I'm impressed! Salem looks like it's going to be all stylish and gloomy, with Puritans looking haggard and witches looking smokin' and hot, possibly literally. But there must be more to the show than stutter shots, mist, and slow-motion, right? We'll find out in 2014.

If the correct term for a male who practice the Craft is not used (Warlock and NOT Witch), I won't be watching this show.

It could be good, but it could also be bad :) - Let's cross fingers!

It looks dark and hot and probably good.

Well I haven't gotten around to Witches of East End yet... It's definitely a show I would check out, but it all depends what time of year it's on, I doubt I'll have the time to tune in unless it's a summer series.

Witches of East End is quite light hearted. Like a weaker version of charmed. This Salem trailer looks darker.

    I like dark!

It looks good but it's only 45 seconds long so it's hard to say if it's going to be any good.

I'll probably only check it out because of Shane West. I am a big fan of him on Nikita.

Not many of the shows you listed are hits, though. It's more of a coincidence than a trend.

Impressive trailer. We'll see how the show goes.

I don't want to watch a show about witches being tortured and killed. If the witches are the good guys and if they are winning, then I will watch the show. If the show is against witches then good luck on the road to oblivion.
