Allen will guest-star in a major multi-episode arc as Margaret O'Neal, the head of an all-boys military academy that becomes entangled in this season's murder mystery. The character is described as a stern disciplinarian who also projects a maternal instinct to the troubled young men in her charge.
Although the character has her own checkered past (including being dishonorably discharged from the military), she is very protective of her job at the academy, which has been run by her family for years. In other words, she probably won't take too kindly to Linden (Mireille Enos) and Holder (Joel Kinnaman) poking around.
Allen, a Tony winner, is best known for her Oscar-nominated roles in Nixon, The Crucible and The Contender, as well as her work in The Bourne Identity franchise. Allen's TV credits include the TNT miniseries The Mists of Avalon, for which she earned an Emmy nomination and, more recently, HBO's Luck.
Netflix revives The Killing for shortened final season
After a two-season run investigating the murder of Rosie Larsen on AMC, The Killing was canceled. However, AMC resurrected the show in 2013, airing a third season that investigated a string of murders connected to a case from Linden's past. After AMC canceled the show a second time, Netflix ordered a six-episode final season in November.
Filming for the final season of The Killing is slated to begin next month. What do you think of Allen's casting? Will you watch?
