'Stephanie Scully' to exit Neighbours
Actress Carla Bonner is quitting TEN soap after 11 years on screen.
Currently on a production break, Bonner will film her final scenes when she resumes work on the show in September. She will remain on screen until the end of the year.
When she wraps up the TEN soap she will head to Los Angeles for a series of meetings and to take part in workshops with drama coach Irene Chubbyk.
But Stephanie Scully won't be killed off by producers, just in case.
Executive producer Susan Bower said, "I'm very sad that Carla is leaving us and she knows the door is always open for Steph to return to Ramsay Street.
"The storylines on-air and coming up showcase what an exceptional talent Carla is and while fans will be disappointed, I promise Steph's farewell will be long remembered and will do the character proud."
Bonner's agent, Jacinta Waters from Creative Representation said, "Carla has had an amazing time on Neighbours, but after 11 incredible years has decided the time for a change has come.
"She will miss all her colleagues in Erinsborough dearly."
Since joining Neighbours in 1999 as a tomboy daughter of the memorable Scully family, Stephanie has remained the one constant for the family. All other family members departed the street, until "Lyn Scully" (Janet Andrewartha) returned.
In that time she has become a fan favourite for her down-to-earth nature and her passion. For many years she harboured an unresolved affection for Drew (Dan Paris) husband of Libby (Kym Valentine) but later married Max Hoyland (Stephen Lovatt). More recently she has been emotionally close to Toadie (Ryan Moloney) and is mid-way through a major storyline now.
Her character has always remained tight with best friends Libby.
But the demands of a weekly soap don't often allow actors to appear in other projects. In 2002, she was also a participant in Celebrity Big Brother (Australia).
After her stint in LA, Bonner is expected to return to Melbourne, where she will continue to be based with her two sons and partner.
