Syfy's Defiance Has a Premiere Date

Do you long for the days when Syfy (then SciFi and with 100-percent fewer cooking shows) was full of programs about spaceship battles and PEW PEW lasers and struggling actors with huge prosthetics on their faces? Hardcore science-fiction returns to the network this spring with Defiance, a green-screen bonanza with a video-game tie-in.

And now it has a premiere date. The previously nebulous debut of "April 2013" has been narrowed down to Monday, April 15 at 9pm, and the 12-episode first season will launch with a two-hour premiere episode.

Defiance stars Grant Bowler (the Dick in Liz & Dick) and Julie Benz (Dexter) and is set in the near future, when a collective of seven alien races in search of a new home tries to move into Earth. Naturally humans aren't too keen on the idea, and the new planetmates have difficulty living together peacefully. The show is one prong of a two-headed project; a massively multiplayer online role-playing game will also be released in April with a story that ties in and compliments complements (thank you docspector, sorry, it's Monday) what happens on screen.

Trailer? You bet:

Another high concept post apocalyptic show...Tbh though, it looks a lot better than Revolution is :P

why are people comparing warehouse 13 with terra nova?? two very different shows.
    the trailer looks interesting :)

If this is anything like 'Revolution' ......, I won't like it.

    "Media Revolution" really??? We'll see...

Eh, I mean, I'll give it a shot. But Fringe was the last sci-fi show that I liked. Hopefully this won't be as horrible as Falling Skies/Terra Nova/Warehouse 13. Ugh, just thinking about those POSs makes me angry.

There's a game element to this? Shame. I'll try to give it three episodes, but if it starts out anything like Terra Nova or Warehouse 13, I won't be able to do that..

woah,woah....stop right there....don't even dare put Warehouse 13 and Terra Nova in same category! Warehouse 13 is awsome!

While I think Defiance game will be disaster, show just might be good to watch. It has some great cast and hopefully it turns out to be watchable. I watched comic-con interview with Defiance cast and creators and it was funny to watch. I'll give it a shot and pray that it is good.

This doesn't look as good as either of the Canadian imports.

been watching some trailers for Defiance game. For me it spells disaster:D,but I will not play game, will watch show. From what I saw is that, you don't have to play the game to understand show. But you might need to watch show to understand game. Game is basically mmo 3rd person shooter. MMO means massive multiplayer online....which I think will be a joke, because these "mmo" and their pvp can only handle 16-20 players, before fps get f-ed up,with all explosins, etc. They say there isn't really single player zone or just pvp zone, that it's open world and anything "can happen at any time". And you create your own character,so of course game and show won't really tie-in,as SyFy and other might advertise it. Will they throw in people's characters they created into show? Yeah right....game is just something they want to cash in on it,so they will be able to support show's cgi work, etc.
I hope that at least SyFy is commited to this show, that it gets 2nd season:D(if it will suck or no,not important atm:D...).

I believe the game will be F2P (Free To Play), so it will likely use the show as a platform to build its player base. As for mmo-pvp, I've never had an issue with 20+ players; Games like PlanetSide 2 have proven that it's possible to do massive 100 vs 100 player battles (PC).

Sorry your experience has been so poor.

When I saw the pool scene, I said to myself, god Veronica mars got a less smart and lili cane got less interresting

hmmm... I'm borderline thinkin this looks cheesier than Falling Skies (which I watch too) but, I think I might give it a shot!
kudos to SciFi...err, correction, SyFy (stupid name changes) for bringing back some actual SciFi in their programming(original any way)
