The X Factor: And the Winner Is...

By Staff

Dec 21, 2012

With four solid hours of The X Factor on Fox's schedule this week, you were probably very ready for the winner to be revealed. And tonight, we finally got the answer... following an over the top red-carpet intro, a few Christmas songs from the top three acts, performances from Pitbull (he's not still in Alaska?) and One Direction, three Khloe Kardashian costume changes, and one last duet between the final two.

But then, the big reveal, which saw America go country with Tate Stevens taking home the crown.

Quite frankly, we're happy with the choice. We've said before that Tate has the most to gain from this title. At 37, breaking into the country music scene will be tough, but $5 million and a Pepsi commercial certainly won't hurt. Maybe he'll even get a duet with new brand spokeswoman Beyonce?

Meanwhile, at 13 years old Carly Rose Sonnenclar still has nothing but opportunity ahead of her. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised to see Disney snatch her up for a musical show tomorrow, especially with so many current actors on the Disney channel aging out of the demographic. Fifth Harmony might be a roll of the dice going forward. We still believe Camila Cabello has the talent to go solo and the group's Christmas song performance tonight didn't match their previous efforts. That said, all it may take is an interest from Simon Cowell in continuing to develop the group, just like he did with One Direction and will likely do for Emblem3 as well. He's probably got the time for it, assuming his support of girlfriend Carmen Electra's singing career is going to be short-lived.

As for the show itself, there are bound to be changes ahead. It's already been announced that L.A. Reid will be leaving the judges' table next year to focus on finding the next Justin Bieber now that Justin Bieber is doing more producing work than L.A. Reid is. It seems highly doubtful that Britney will return for less than this year's staggering $15 million salary. And surely Demi Lovato will be leaving to record some more music herself. That leaves Simon with the prospect of finding three new judges for 2013, which is apparently the new normal for music competition shows. With Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj making their American Idol debuts in January, you can cross them off the list. So who's left? Well, we'll leave that to you to decide in the comments...

1. Will we see more of Fifth Harmony someday?

2. What's next for Carly Rose Sonnenclar?

3. Are you happy that Tate won?

4. Who would you like to see replace L.A. Reid on the judging panel next year?

5. Are you hoping for another year of Britney or Demi? If not, give us your picks for their replacements below.

X-factor is a talent show. Anyone who thinks Tate's talent is greater than Carly's simply does not understand what talent is. Totally ridiculous and time will prove it.

I was honestly hoping Carly would win but knew she wouldn't once Fifth Harmony got into the finals. They probably ate up each other's votes, whereas there isn't as much crossover between Tate's fans and the others. It was pretty predictable.

Carly has an astonishing voice, and I'm excited to see what she brings to the table in the future. I think she will become a big star one day. I do wish that she'd wait a couple more years, that way she can develop a passion for songwriting as well. Beautiful voice, but I want substance too.

Tate has a great voice, and I think he deserved to win but I did think he lacked something compared to Carly. I'm still a big fan though and hope he makes some good music in the future.

I was most surprised by Fifth Harmony though towards the end. They just started doing some phenomenal stuff these last couple weeks and I've really taken a liking to them. I just hope they don't turn into an extremely poppy and predictable band like One Direction (who has like one or two good songs, but all they sing about is girls and romance).

X factor blows, the voice is not much better Idol is going down hill for talent, basically the talent pool is shrinking time to end the singing reality shows period!!

i was really happy that tate won! he's just too good to be in the corner... and i agree, carly has a future ahead of her and for tate, that would be way more difficult!
anyway, both are awesome so i'm happy country dude won (he was amazing on the final round)...

i dont really care bout fifth harmony but i do want to see more of emblem3

i did not know LA Reid was leaving and i'm happy now cuz i hate him! he's obnoxious and way too full of himself...

i hope britney stays but i dont care bout demi cuz i love her but she wasn't a good mentor at all...

The British version was SO good this year. James Arthur is great, as where at least 4 other contestants. This US version was total crap in every aspect. Production, talent (what good talent was ruined by poor judge decisions), The hosts, the hosts again because they where that bad, even the dancers. Was no SYTYCD alumni looking for work? If you hvae not watched, youtube James Arthur or Jahmene douglas, Lucy Spraggan or Ella Henderson and you will see what I am talking about.

I think both seasons of the US version have been pure crap. The judges try too hard, Simon makes up rules on the fly. For a show that puts so much money into it, it's remarkably cheap looking. And yes, they do a ruin a lot of good talent with their poor choice in staging the song. Sometimes it's just way better to allow them to just sing.

I dont think britney will return unless she is given a higher salary but i know she was interested in coming back.

I really hope Carly doesnt get picked up by disney, I can see Diamond or Beatrice fitting into that club, but not Carly

  • JohnCouto Dec 21, 2012

I agree... Carly needs to do something bigger!

  • OU812 Dec 21, 2012

Carly should have one. She is more talented and more viable as an artist. The good news is $5 million is a drop in the bucket compared to what Carly will earn in her gonna-be-huge music career.

I'm alright with Tate winning, I liked him more than some of the top contestants.. but I am not at all a fan of country music and since this is supposed to be about talent, not personality, I didn't want him to win.. apart from Jennel Garcia (WHO WAS VOTED OF WAAAAAY TOO SOON!), the only one I'd be interested in checking into post-XF would have been Fifth Harmony, and maybe Carly Rose.. the finale was basically the exact opposite of how I wanted it to go

  • AdaHui Dec 21, 2012

Sooo happy that Tate won! He totally deserves it. I'm definitely going to support him when his music comes out.

Forget the judges, get rid of Khloe-bot next season. Honestly this show isn't nearly as good as The Voice or American Idol but I just keep watching it for the train wreck it is. That being said, I still want to throw rocks at Khloe-bot everytime she opens her mouth or starts groping people on the show.
