What to Watch Tonight: Parks and Rec's Season 6 Finale, Mycroft's Return to Elementary, and the Series Premieres of Black Box and Bad Teacher
What to watch on Thursday, April 24...
SEASON 6 FINALE, 8pm, NBC
Parks and Recreation
As the Unity Concert rocks Pawnee like a hurricane (or, y’know, like a brisk yet welcoming spring breeze), Leslie faces a major decision about her future in “Moving Up.” In other season-concluding developments, Tom’s restaurant opens to the public, Andy’s rock fantasy comes true, and the return of Tammy 2 (Megan Mullally) flusters Ron.
The Big Bang Theory
Sheldon takes a stab at spontaneity in “The Anything Can Happen Recurrence,” and the result sparks tension among the ladies. Meanwhile, Howard helps Raj ready for his date with Emily.
8pm, The CW
The Vampire Diaries
TVD gets its Mad Men on when Enzo flashes back to Election Day 1960 in “Man on Fire,” unfurling the fate of his former flame Maggie. In the present day, Bonnie grapples with the turmoil on the Other Side, while Markos, Sloan, and Tyler take part in a dangerous ritual to break the Travelers’ curse.
9pm, The CW
In “Toy Soldiers,” Mary’s uncle arrives bearing bad news about her mother, leaving both Mary and Francis torn between love and country. Bash and Kenna, on the other hand, begin to grow closer, while Henry barrels into a plot that’s bound to bollix things up tremendously.
In “Change of Heart,” Jackson arrives bearing bad news… man, this is turning into a depressing lineup. Well hey, maybe a few surprise visits will cheer things up. Amelia drops in on Derek! Richard wings his way to Boston to see Catherine! See, we’re feeling peppier already, aren’t we?
Saturday Night Live: Digital Shorts
Some of the show’s most popular pre-recorded segments are highlighted, including that one where Samberg plays a kinda deranged dude and that one everybody kept sharing in your feed all day long the following Monday even though you didn’t think it was all that hot.
SERIES PREMIERE, 9:30pm, CBS
Ari Graynor plays the titular subpar educator in this sitcom adapted from the 2011 Cameron Diaz movie of the same name. In the opener, brassy divorcée Meredith takes a gig at a posh elementary school in hopes of bagging a wealthy single dad as her next hubby.
Heather meets Frankie’s family in “Something to Talk About,” which is complicated by Joanne being hopped up on pain meds. Elsewhere, George and Mikey must recover a hidden porn video from the Dunlevy house.
SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, ABC
Kelly Reilly stars as Dr. Catherine Black, an airplane flight recorder that… wait, nope, read that title a bit too literally. She’s actually a prestigious neurologist grappling with her secret—and intensifying—bipolar disorder. As the series begins, Catherine deals with her challenging new work colleague and her boyfriend’s push for marriage.
En route to Chez Ecbert, Ragnar and the Ragnarettes are accosted by ruffians in “The Choice.” Because if there’s anybody you want to start shit with just walking down the street, it’s a horde of Viking berserkers. Smart move.
10pm, Comedy Central
Forrest aims to be the life of the party, to outwit the cops, and to tie the knot. A wise combination of tasks, as in many cultures, all three can and should be accomplished while wearing a lampshade on one’s head.
In “3-D Printer,” the mayor cuts the ribbon on Portland’s newest official gizmo. In lower-tech business, art students diss big business, a TV commercial director loses his muse, a minister makes the case for church, Santa frets about Christmas Future, and Lance and Nina bid farewell to their lizard.
“There’s No ‘I’ in Cream” finds the crew walking an EMT class through one particularly noteworthy day on the job. But amid all that life-saving and educating, Johnny’s mission is to nab the rogue who scarfed the last donut.
Mycroft pays an unexpected call on the brownstone in “The Man With the Twisted Lip,” setting Sherlock and Joan at odds. In case-of-the-week business, a missing person case has ties to the world of aerial drones.
