Two more signed for Heroes: Origins

Heroes hype is hot, and it all comes to a boil tonight when the season two premiere airs on NBC. The big draw for most fans is the debut of new superheroes and superpowers, courtesy of the several new regular cast members that have been added to the show during the off-season.

Even more characters will come into the Heroes mythos courtesy of Heroes: Origins, the self-contained spin-off that will air during Heroes' mid-season break.

The six episodes will each follow a new person dealing with newfound superpowers and will be written and directed by guest talent. Kevin Smith was announced as the first outsider brought on board to write and direct an episode. And today, news broke of two more Hollywood types putting their own spin on Heroes.

Eli Roth, writer and director of the gore-fests Hostel and Cabin Fever, and Michael Dougherty, screenwriter for Superman Returns and X2: X-Men United, will lend their talents to Origins, says Variety.

Roth, who has an affinity for bloody, campy horror flicks and kick-started the "torture porn" movement, will write and direct his episode. Dougherty, who is writing and directing the upcoming Halloween horror Trick 'r Treat, will only write his episode.

Origins hopes to keep Heroes fans occupied during the series' break and will do so with an American Idol-esque twist. Fans will be able to vote for one of the six new characters to join Heroes as a regular.

i'm really excited for heroes origins. but i don't get it. its not like the original characters, its like new characters that are somehow to do with the original characters but not really. i don't know, but if you can understand me, is that what it is :P

Everything I've read says that Origins will air in April AFTER the current season, not at mid-season. The hero that wins the votes will join the cast the following season. (Source: Wiki Origins page citations)

This is a sick idea! and to one of the comments above no there are not enough characters you just have to learn to pay attention a little better,

It'll be better that not having any "Hero's" to watch during the long break, and it won't be reruns!

I hope Eli introduces a character with corrosive saliva/blood, that would be a lot of fun. I'd rather see that then just doubling or tripling up on superpowers we've already seen.
