What to watch on Wednesday, January 15...

American Idol
Based on this premiere, in which hopeful contestants try to wow judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick, Jr., in Boston and Austin, I’m just going to assume the gimmick for this year’s audition rounds is that they only take place in cities that rhyme. Sorry, Poughkeepsie.

8pm, The CW
Arrow clashes with another connoisseur of sharp-edged projectiles when explosives expert Shrapnel (Sean Maher) begins detonating bombs around Starling City—with Blood’s Unity Rally his next target. Elsewhere in “Blast Radius,” Thea discovers Roy’s new super-strength, and Laurel unearths a link between Blood and Cyrus Gold.

Melissa & Joey
A smitten Joe is crushed to find Mel and Austin resuming their romance in “A Decent Proposal,” prompting him to make a big decision. But Lennox is determined to make sure her aunt winds up with the guy whose name is also in the show’s title.

8pm, NBC
In “Mis Dos Padres,” Monroe finds himself at a crossroads with his son, while Gene leads Charlie to a harsh truth and Jason blanches at Neville and Julia’s prolonged pas de deux.

George hopes a furry new addition to the family can help him mend fences with Tessa in “No Me Gusta, Mami,” as tonight’s apparent wave of Spanish episode titles supplements my Rosetta Stone training. Around Chatswin, Sheila sets to defending the town from the canine interloper, and Dallas’s break-up with George puts her on the outs with Dalia.

SEASON 3 PREMIERE, 8:30pm, ABC Family
Baby Daddy
Ben and Riley take their first halting steps into couplehood in “The Naked Truth,” leading the latter into a mortifying moment. And while Ben fumes at Bonnie for bringing Angela back into the fold, Tucker introduces Danny to his patent-pending method for rebounding from heartbreak.

9pm, The CW
The Tomorrow People
Clued into Ultra’s top-secret research facility, the TPs orchestrate a daring breakout for its prisoners in “The Citadel.” Closer to home, Stephen suspects something’s fishy about his mom’s new suitor. Is it because the guy is an evil android? In situations like this it’s usually because the guy is an evil android.

9pm, NBC
Law & Order: SVU
In “Amaro’s One-Eighty,” the detective endures a harsh spotlight after wounding a young potential drug dealer in the line of duty. While he grapples with the scrutiny of the media, Internal Affairs, and his own conscience, the department is rocked by a sudden announcement from Cragen.

9pm, USA
“S.E.I.Z.E. the Day” finds Lassiter in the throes of a health scare as Shawn and Gus help him track down the fiendish felon who tried to off Interim Police Chief Trout.

9pm, ABC
Modern Family
At a high school open house in “Under Pressure,” Gloria goes toe-to-toe with a vicious fellow mom (Jane Krakowski) while Claire blows a gasket from stress. Meanwhile, Mitchell butts heads with a holier-than-thou neighbor (Jesse Eisenberg), and Alex consults a therapist.

SEASON 5 PREMIERE, 10pm & 10:30pm, A&E
Duck Dynasty
Back from her L.A. internship, Rebecca triggers fatherly concern in Willie in “Boomerang Becca.” Then in “Willie’s Number Two,” Korie’s cousin JD, in search of gainful employment, tries to butter up the boys in the Duck Call room.

Men at Work
“Pre-Posal” sends Neal to Amy’s father for a blessing before he can pop the question. Meanwhile, Tyler confronts the grim specter of aging and inevitable death, and Milo and Gibbs attempt something called a “samurai cleanse,” which may or may not involve shedding toxins by being disemboweled with a katana.

10pm, CBS
In “Keep Calm and Carry On,” a seemingly minor incident aboard a Vegas-bound plane escalates into murder. Could irate passenger Joel Grey hold the key to the case?

10pm, FX
American Horror Story: Coven
“Protect the Coven,” exhorts the antepenultimate episode, and Cordelia goes to extreme lengths to comply. Meanwhile, Fiona and Laveau square off with the Corporation—with deadly consequences.

10pm, NBC
Chicago P.D.
The Colombian gang may be responsible for the abduction of Antonio’s son in “Wrong SIde of the Bars,” spurring a furious squad investigation. In the process, Halstead discovers more about Lindsay, and Voight recommends a different strategy for locating the lad.

10pm, ABC
A devastating death sparks a new mystery, plenty of soul-searching, and apparently a guest turn from Kelly Clarkson, who presents a huge opportunity to Gunnar and Scarlett. Elsewhere in “I’ll Keep Climbing,” manipulated footage deals more damage to Juliette’s image, Rayna and her new label face an uphill battle, and Maddie and Daphne aid a creatively bereft Deacon.
