What to Watch Tonight: Castle, the Series Premiere of Star-Crossed, and Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show Debut
What to watch on Monday, February 17...
2014 Winter Olympic Games
Coverage from Sochi includes the ice dancing gold medal final, the men’s snowboard cross gold medal final, the men’s freestyle skiing aerials gold medal final, and the men’s ski jumping team K-125 large hill gold medal final.
SERIES PREMIERE, 8pm, The CW
Hoping to integrate smoothly into human society, members of an Earth-dwelling alien race send their progeny to one of our most benevolent and inclusive institutions: high school. But tension and fear are the order of the day as this sci-fi drama commences, leavened only by the bond between a human girl (Aimee Teegarden) and an extraterrestrial boy (Matt Lanter), who met briefly when they were youngsters.
In “Disrupt,” a “smart home” on the fritz goes all Amityville Horror on its inhabitants, which I’m pretty sure was the plot of no fewer than three episodes of The Jetsons. Fixing the glitch requires Kennex and Dorian to parley with the house’s holographic representative.
8pm, ABC Family
Switched at Birth
Festivities abound in “The Scream.” Daphne prepares to ring in Campbell’s 21st birthday, Bay angles for an invitation to a luau at Tank’s frat, and Kathryn stages a murder-mystery party that elicits surprising confessions from both her and John. (Not, like, murder-related confessions though. Probably.)
8:45pm, Cartoon Network
“Arcade Mania” sends Steven and the Crystal Gems to Funland Arcade, where Garnet takes an immediate liking to the world of tokens, joysticks, and entering “A-S-S” when you make the high-score leaderboard.
9pm, ABC Family
After Callie makes a bold decision, her future's so bright she’s gotta wear shades. Elsewhere in “Us Against the World,” Stef’s career is on the line when she’s called to testify in Mike’s case, Mariana takes a risk to catch Chase’s eye, Jude deciphers a strange message, and Brandon’s latest move distresses Callie.
SEASON 5 PREMIERE, 9pm, Food Network
Worst Cooks in America
Fourteen more of America’s biggest culinary klutzes are assembled into two teams, led again by Anne Burrell and Bobby Flay. “Worse Than Ever” starts them off with a lesson in that most versatile and essential of dishes, pizza.
Hey, everybody! Joe’s cooked up a new plan in “Reflection”! Will it be painfully convoluted and sort of pointless if you think about it for more than a second and a half? Probably! Will it still befuddle and bewilder everyone else on the show, including Ryan and Max, who are busy interrogating a captive suspect? Almost definitely! That’s the The Following promise.
In “Cheater of the Pack,” a surprising development leaves Josh fearing for his and Nora’s future while Sally’s busy mucking about with the past. Meanwhile, Aidan leans on Suzanna and memories of his old life as he fights to keep his hunger at bay.
In exchange for help recovering her vanished memories, Bo helps an enigmatic opera singer shed her shackles in “Of All the Gin Joints.” Elsewhere, Kenzie is threatened by an associate of Hale’s, and the Morrigan pops in on Lauren just to, y’know, hang.
With the lights out, it’s less dangerous… unless you’re a high school mean girl whose torments finally push one classmate to murder in “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” As Castle investigates the crime on his old secondary school stomping grounds, he and Beckett find evidence that the killer may have telekinetic powers. Really, show? Telekinesis, eh? Oh well. Whatever. Never mind.
Disaster looms in “Letharia Vulpina.” Can Scott and the gang forestall the danger in time? Before you answer, remember that Teen Wolf hates you and wants you to be sad.
Microscopic robots are knocking off the world’s top A.I. scientists in “Size Matters”—and Cassidy may be next on the hit list. This looks like a job for
