What to watch on Wednesday, August 28...
The judges celebrate “Take Your Child to Work Day,” while the five remaining cooks whip up Southern-style fare for local charity workers in this two-hour installment.
MID-SEASON FINALE, PART 1, 8pm, ABC Family
Melissa & Joey
To: Melissa & Joey. From: The Sitcom Guild of America. Re: Your Wacky Hijinks Application. Your license for a Character Posing as Other Character’s Romantic Interest plot has been approved. Mel may pretend to be Joe’s ex-wife when the family visits his dying grandma (Doris Roberts) in “What Happens in Jersey, Part 1.” Your B-plot application, “Joe’s nephew puts the moves on Lennox,” is pending review.
Hank clashes with another doc over Don’s treatment in “Open Invitation,” while Divya learns a secret that may disrupt her relationship with Jeremiah. Elsewhere, Evan and Eddie seek out of the ordinary help in their quest against Hank’s use of prescription pain medication.
“Hot Tub Grime Machine” finds the fellas lending a hand to Godwin’s hot tub shopping. Meanwhile, Phil and Kay decide Sadie and John Luke are ready to learn to make Mayhaw jelly.
10pm, Comedy Central
A woman with no sense of smell is the perfect match for the olfactorily offensive Zoidberg in “Stench and Stenchibility,” while a lethal tap dancing contest is the perfect diversion (this week) for Bender.
10pm, BBC America
Nearly destroyed evidence reemerges, but the newest break in the case may be revelations about Jack’s past. The Latimers, meanwhile, agitate for more substantial press coverage of Danny’s murder.
In “Vendetta,” Sonya’s all like, “Yo, check out this cold lead!” but Marco’s all like, “Pfft, that’s a total dud, don’t waste your time!” but then Sonya’s all like, “Pfft yourself, I’m gonna check it out!” so then Marco’s all like, “Whatevs.” I mean, it’ll probably be more eloquently executed than that, but that’s the gist of it.
Top Chef Masters
From the moment they first collide in the green room, falling over gracelessly and spilling a pot of broth everywhere, the chefs and guest judge Mindy Kaling plain can’t stand each other. But fate keeps throwing them together through a series of zany misunderstandings—and the interventions of sassy best friend Yo Gabba Gabba. Pretty soon, Mindy’s asking the chefs to cook up romantic comedy-themed dishes, and the chefs are happy to answer the call, possibly to the bouncy strains of Katy Perry’s “Roar.”
MID-SEASON FINALE, 10:30pm, TV Land
The “my” in “My Ex-Boyfriend’s Wedding” is Holly, and the “ex-boyfriend” is Paul, and the “wedding” is… well that one probably doesn’t need clarification. Anyway, as she throws the nuptials into several shades of bedlam, Phil and Eden use the occasion to admit their own romantic desires and Haskell seeks a tawdrier sort of liaison.
SEASON 2 FINALE, 11pm, TV Land
The Soul Man
Back in the recording studio, Boyce is plagued by old habits in “Revelations.” At the church, Lolli and Barton try to maintain order, while Stamps and Kim contemplate coming clean about their relationship.
