What to Watch Tonight: Suburgatory, Supernatural, and the Premiere of Whitney
What to watch on Wednesday, November 14...
We’re smack-dab in the middle of November sweeps, and TV shows are pulling out all the stops in hopes that you'll actually watch live instead of relying on your DVR. And so tonight brings us holiday-themed episodes, the return of fan-favorite characters, and even a season premiere or two. Just try not to be overwhelmed by all the promotional stunts!
SEASON 2 PREMIERE, 8pm, NBC
This is (mostly) not a troll suggestion. Contrary to popular belief and your Twitter feed, Whitney did not expedite the end of the Mayan calendar, force NBC to tape-delay the Olympics, or temporarily dispute the polling results in Ohio. In fact, by the middle of last season, it was kind of... fine. There've been some changes behind the scenes and the Season 2 premiere focuses on some of the problematic RELATIONSHIP STUFF, but it’s still worth checking out if you don’t care about that singing competition. No, the other one.
9pm, The CW
Cas is back, and kind of for real this time. Everyone’s favorite fallen angel has been seen a few times in flashbacks this season, but in tonight’s episode, he tracks down the Winchesters, apparently because he's escaped from Purgatory. Meanwhile, the Trans return with an explosive plan for Crowley. So yeah, this looks like an episode that will be chock-full of Dean feels.
We just wrapped up TV Halloween, which obviously means it’s already time for TV Thanksgiving. Suburgatory kicked into a higher gear with its Thanksgiving episode in Season 1, so hopefully this one—in which Tessa tries to spend the holiday with her mother and grandmother while George cooks a feast with Dallas—will provide similar quality returns.
Just to confirm that there are good things that can happen in the world, Nashville was picked up for a full season earlier this week. So if you’re one of those people who doesn’t jump in on shows early out of fear that they’ll be unceremoniously axed—and I don’t blame you, because I’m still recovering from Lone Star—now is your chance to catch up with one of the best new dramas of the season. Tonight’s episode sees Hayden P’s character attempting to date a NFL player with a “pristine reputation” in hopes of scoring some good press, but I swear that not every episode is about Tim Tebow or his facsimiles. That’s everything on ESPN.
American Horror Story: Asylum
I just want to take this opportunity to say that AHS has been wonderful this season. This time period, style, and story all fit the writers’ sensibilities better than the disastrous—but oftentimes still compelling—nonsense we saw in Season 1. This is part two of the story that began last week, and the already immortal Bloody Face is going to be unmasked. Who do you think it's gonna be?
10:30pm, Comedy Central
Key & Peele
Chances are you saw the post-election Obama celebration video going around on the interwebs last week and you probably laughed. Unsurprisingly, most Key & Peele bits and sketches are at least that funny—and if you’re looking for more than timely political humor merged with timeless M.C. Hammer gags, the comedy duo just the new episode for you this evening: Hootie himself, Darius Rucker, guest-stars. Really.
