What to Watch Tonight: The End of Breaking Bad and the Season/Series Premieres of Homeland, OUAT, Masters of Sex, The Good Wife, Revenge, and More
What to watch on Sunday, September 29...
8pm, BBC America
Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited
Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston was a new Doctor for a new millennium. Relive the early days of the series’ current run with the two-part 2005 tale “Bad Wolf” and “The Parting of Ways,” in which the Doctor takes on Satellite 5 alongside companion Rose and Captain Jack Harkness.
SEASON 3 PREMIERE, 8pm, ABC
Once Upon a Time
The search party touches down in Neverland, where a band of menacing mermaids threatens to thwart their pursuit of Henry. Elsewhere in “Heart of the Truest Believer,” the missing lad himself is on the run from the Lost Boys, and Neal and Mulan traverse the Enchanted Forest.
SEASON 23 PREMIERE, 8pm, CBS
The Amazing Race
Eleven pairs depart Los Angeles for Chile, where a paragliding challenge may test one contestant’s acrophobia in “We’re Not in Oklahoma No More.” On a Reddit board somewhere, a conspiracy-addled numerologist will explain in great detail why Race #23 is the one that will portend all of our doom.
SEASON 4 PREMIERE, 8:30pm, Fox
In “A River Runs Through Bob,” the Belchers are going camping! But can the family survive an outdoorsy ordeal chock-full of tumultuous river rapids, determined squirrels, and family members going missing?
SERIES FINALE, 9pm, AMC
Pretty soon, you won’t have Walter Hartwell White to kick around (or, possibly, to frighteningly idolize) any more. What clues can be gleaned from the episode title “Felina,” other than its being an anagram of “finale”? What to make of Vince Gilligan’s statement that the series’ coda will prove “victorious”? Who will feel the brunt of Walt’s machine gun-and-Ricin arsenal? Who will be the last recipient of a Jesse Pinkman “bitch!”? Will Todd and Lydia ride off together, headed for suburban bliss? Will anybody, anybody at all, genuinely have an A1 day? So many questions, and only 75 minutes to answer them all. Also of note: Tonight's final episode of Talking Bad runs for a full hour instead of the typical half.
SEASON 7 FINALE, 9pm, PBS
Intelligence makes for nasty bedfellows in “Sunflower,” when Foyle must safeguard an ex-Nazi who’s now a key MI5 informant—and who’s being targeted by the Yanks on account of, y’know, the whole Nazi thing.
SEASON 3 PREMIERE, 9pm, Showtime
Brody is on the lam in “Tin Man is Down,” while Carrie must testify before a Senate committee about the D.C. bombing. At Langley, Saul takes the reins and devises an appropriate response, hopefully in the form of a song.
SEASON 3 PREMIERE, 9pm, ABC
Summer greets the Hamptons with Emily adjusting her revenge timetable in “Fear.” Meanwhile, the Graysons’ world is rocked as Victoria reconnects with her long-lost son.
SEASON 5 PREMIERE, 9pm, CBS
The Good Wife
“Everything is Ending”—including, apparently, the show’s excellent tradition of episode titles containing as many words as the number of the season the episode appears in. You broke my heart, The Good Wife. You broke my heart. Luckily, you can make it up to me by adding Jeffrey Tambor to your roster of guest judges, and by having Alicia balance her duties on a capital crime with her secret plans to slip away from Lockhart Gardner.
SEASON 12 PREMIERE, 9pm, Fox
It’s a mad, mad, mad, mad Quahog in “Finders Keepers” when Peter decides that a restaurant placemat must contain a map to treasures untold. Soon the word is out, sparking chaos as the townsfolk race to unearth the alleged riches.
SEASON 9 PREMIERE, 9:30pm, Fox
Unable to land willing, human dates to the prom, Steve and Snot bust out the CIA’s cloning machine to conjure up a couple of companions in “Steve and Snot’s Test-Tubular Adventure.” When the device yields two rapidly growing newborns instead, the boys must shift from potential paramours to proud papas.
SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, Showtime
Masters of Sex
Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan portray the titular twosome, acclaimed sexual behavior researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The series commences as the pair begin their clandestine scientific endeavors in 1956.
SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, ABC
A photographer and a rainmaking attorney, both married to other people, are swept up in a torrid affair that has ties to a high-profile murder case he’s trying, and everyone involved fervently pretends this thing won’t get booted to Summer Burn-off Theater within five episodes.
SEASON 6 PREMIERE, 10pm, CBS
“The Desert Rose” finds Jane and Lisbon looking into the murder of a man whose body turns up two years after he vanished. Really, though, their hearts are in their side mission: Whittling down that Red John suspect list from seven possibilities.
SEASON 4 PREMIERE, 10pm, HBO
Eastbound & Down
Kenny Powers has traded in debauchery for domesticity as “Chapter 22” opens. But after a night of rabble-rousing with a former teammate, his high-octane urges return and he looks for an escape route that will take him out of the suburbs.
SERIES PREMIERE, 10:30pm, HBO
An English web designer delves into the L.A. dating scene in this new comedy co-created by and starring The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant. The opener finds him accompanying friends to the grand opening of a swanky nightclub, and taking his off-kilter courtship techniques out for a spin.
And now, let’s all vote to crown the What to Watch Tonight Episode Title of the Week!
