What to watch on Wednesday, January 8...

8pm, NBC
Revolution
“Neville and Julia dance a delicate dance,” states the logline for “Three Amigos,” and I’m not sure if that’s a metaphor or if the success of The Sound of Music Live has prompted NBC to convert all its programming into musicals. In less toe-tapping transpirings, Charlie and Gene search for Aaron while Miles, Monroe, and Rachel encounter trouble south of the border.

8pm, ABC
The Middle
In “Sleepless in Orson,” constant access to the news of the world leaves Brick in a constant panic. Meanwhile, one of the Glossner boys is putting the moves on Sue, and Darrin launches a competitor to Axl and Sean’s Boss Co.

8:30pm & 9:30pm, ABC
Super Fun Night
“Lil’ Big Kim” is the name of Kimmie’s alter ego, who tries persuading a rap star to sign with the law firm in tonight’s first installment. Then in "Dinner Party" at 9:30pm, a soiree at Kimmie's place is discombobulated by Dan, Benji, and Ruby's catering services and by Jazmine and her new hubby's drunkenness.

9pm, CBS
The 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards
Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs host the celebration of fan-favorite pop culture live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Slated performers include Brad Paisley, Sara Bareilles, and OneRepublic.

SEASON 8 PREMIERE, 9pm, USA
Psych
“Lock, Stock, Some Smoking Barrels and Burton Guster's Goblet of Fire” sends the gang to swinging London Town, where Despereaux (Cary Elwes) lends a hand and where Gus dons his sharpest Hufflepuff jacket at a Harry Potter convention.

9pm, ABC
Modern Family
A scheme to sign Luke up for a dance class lands Phil in the slammer in “And One to Grow On.” Elsewhere, Jay and Gloria fret over Manny’s romantic pursuits, and Mitch and Cam’s attempts to book a wedding venue hit more hurdles than anticipated.

9pm, NBC
Law & Order: SVU
Benson must confront her assailant, William Lewis (Pablo Schreiber), in court in “Psycho/Therapist.” Will the fiend’s latest round of legal razzle-dazzle get him off scot-free yet again?

SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, NBC
Chicago P.D.
The Chicago Fire spin-off centers on an elite police intelligence unit that combats the Windy City’s severest crimes. “Stepping Stone” kicks it off with Det. Sgt. Hank Voight leading his team in the pursuit of a notorious drug cartel while rookie Kyle is hand-picked to join the squad.

SEASON 29 PREMIERE, 10pm, MTV
The Real World: Ex-plosion
The series returns to its Bay Area roots, but this time the San Francisco house is populated by former couples.

10pm, PBS
Chasing Shackleton
Environmental scientist Tim Jarvis spearheads an effort to follow in the footsteps of Sir Ernest Shackleton, who launched the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition in 1914. Part one of the three-part doc-series finds the crew preparing to recreate this landmark voyage, preferably without the part where the ship was pulverized by ice and sank.

10pm, FX
American Horror Story: Coven
“The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks” brings Fiona face to face with the Gold Dust Woman herself as she tries to expose the new Supreme. In other dreams unwinding, lightning strikes—maybe once, maybe twice—as Madison targets her competition for the Supremacy, and just like a white-winged dove Cordelia discovers more about Hank and the Witch Hunters.
