… Fox has taken the unprecedented step of making its new sitcom, the Zooey Deschanel-starring New Girl, available for free download on iTunes. The episode is available now through Monday, Sept. 19. The series premieres on Fox the following night. Check it out, then come back here and tell us what you think in the comments! [Fox, via press release]

… It’s the end of an era, as Regis Philbin has announced that his last day in the LIVE! with Regis and Kelly high chair will be Friday, Nov. 18. [ABC, via press release]

… Lifetime: Television for Fugitive Hunters Who Happen to be Women has announced that it's picked up America’s Most Wanted, which was canceled by Fox last May. This could be an inspired bit of counter-intuitive programming for the ladies’ network, whose audience’s blood lust for true crime movies like The Craigslist Killer and Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy shows no signs of waning. [EW]

… Speaking of Lifetime, the network is spinning off Project Runway into Project Accessory, where designers will work against the clock to produce handbags, hats, stilettos, and boutonnieres in a competition that promises to be even bloodier and more senseless than any given episode of America’s Most Wanted. Molly Sims hosts. [Life and Style]

… The studio that's producing Charlie Sheen’s comeback comedy is reportedly in talks to secure veteran sitcom scribe Bruce Helford, creator of The Drew Carey Show and George Lopez, to write it. The project in question is based on the movie Anger Management. [Deadline]

… The next star of The Bachelor has been named, and it’s puppy-breathed Bachelorette rejectee Ben Flajnik. From the ABC press release: “Millions of viewers shared the heartbreak of Ben Flajnik (pronounced Flannick) when his soulful and heartfelt proposal was rejected by Ashley Hebert in the emotional finale of last season’s The Bachelorette. As a result, we’ve decided to give him his own harem of 24 desperate reality floozies, who he can similarly string along until it’s his turn to humiliate one on national TV. Such is karma, byeeotch.” Okay, maybe the last few sentences were embellished a bit. [ABC, via press release]

Susan Lucci has turned down the opportunity to continue playing Erica Kane on All My Children’s post-cancellation, online iteration. This despite an offer to stay on at her current salary. But Michael Easton, Ted King, Kassie DePaiva, and Erika Slezak have all signed on, so get the appropriate webpages bookmarked and don’t Bogart the Kleenex, people! [Deadline]

… Mike Chang’s parents have been cast on Glee. Tamlyn Tomita (The Joy Luck Club) and Keong Sim (The Last Airbender) will play mom and dad to the New Directions member with two light feet and the inability to carry a tune. [EW]

Jay Mohr has joined the cast of ABC’s very promising freshman sitcom Suburgatory, playing “absentee husband” to Cheryl Hines’ vapid nightmare of a pampered housewife. (And we mean that in the best sense possible.) [TVLine]

True Blood's Lindsay Pulsipher has joined the History Channel’s The Hatfields and McCoys miniseries, which already stars Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton as the two warring patriarchs. She’ll play Roseanna McCoy, Bill’s beautiful daughter. [THR]

The Daily Show correspondent Larry Whilmore has signed on to play Damon Wayans’ character’s boss on Happy Endings on ABC. [Vulture]

Gilmore Girls star Scott Cohen has joined ABC’s Pan Am as a guest star. He'll play a vice president at the airline during a three-episode arc that begins in Week 4. [EW]

… If you’re one of the millions of Americans who looked at 3D TVs and thought, “Yeah, no thanks. I’ve been bitten before by Pet Rocks and Crystal Pepsi, and this one costs a hell of a lot more,” then give yourself a pat on the back! The fad is waning, as evidenced by ESPN 3D network, which is on the needle. [NY Post]

Happy Endings spoiler alert: The Season 2 Halloween special will bring us Max and Penny as Dueling Snookis. [TVLine]

… Bad economy? What bad economy? NBC is asking, and getting, $3.5 million per Super Bowl ad spot. That’s a half-million more than last year. [ADWEEK]

Anthony Michael Hall was released from LAPD custody on Tuesday after being booked on charges of disturbing the peace for threatening a neighbor at his condo in Venice, CA. Hall had been seen "tearing up plants" in the common area. The neighbor emerged to ask what he was doing, and Hall "responded with an obscenity and threatened to 'beat him to a pulp.'" Then Hall knocked on the neighbor's door a little later and demanded he come out for a fight, which is when the neighbor called the cops. Hall has a history of substance abuse. [LAT]

I just watched the New Girl pilot, and as much as I like Zooey's quirkyness, I don't think its going to catch on. But then again, it is just a pilot, and most pilots looks totally different than the normal episodes.

But to me the pilot just felt so random and awkward. I hope the next episodes are much more cohesive and more put together. I also think it needed a better background soundtrack. (I like the opening theme, just not the transitional sounds).

I can't believe how much I love The New Girl.

Shouldn't that be Damon Wayons, Jr.? As far as I know, his father is still alive.

Hey Seth, now that you corrected Susan Lucci's information, you need to recorrect the other information for the other actors. Susan Lucci is with All My Children (that is now correct). Ted King, Michael Easton, Kassie DePaiva and Erika Slezak are with One Life to Live. That was correct yesterday. Sorry about that! LOL

3D will be big, trust me. Just give it time. Sure ESPN jumped the gun, but when Sony unveils it's glasses-less, view from 170 degrees, 3DTV at the next CES you will be eating your words. It's okay, Americans usually take a while to get into the know ;)

I feel like the characters of new girl are fox's way of dumbing down versions of the ones from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The guy that's obsessed with his ex girl friend and kinda slightly weird is like Charlie (his ex is even played by the waitress). The self absorbed douche bag can be related to Dennis. Coach who doesn't seem to take women seriously and is all about working out is basically Mac. Then you have the girl who seems to not really do much but get herself into situations that annoy the rest of the cast just like Dee...lets hope they can break away and develop these characters better but I think I'll just stick with Sunny in Philly

Thanks for pointing this out. That comparison jumped out at me as soon as the vaguely looking Charlie character started to talk and I couldn't shake the comparison after that. When the showed him working behind the bar halfway through the episode I started to believe this was becoming intentional. It's like they took the basic shape of those characters, left telling traits and removed all the cynicism.

Once again Zooey plays the same kind of role AGAIN, the cutsey artsy indie chick. No thanks, plus it wasn't funny for more than 4 seconds. I want my money back.

WOW that was a great Pilot episode..... go download it... i think it has a lot of potential, and she really sold the part too... she's acts awkward roles really well and i think Jess will define her career if the writers give her good material
