She is from a large family, and has 3 sisters and 2 brothers. She knew she wanted to be an actress from the time she was very young, and starred in her kindergarten play. Deborah attended Vanderbilt University, where she was a Drama major with a music minor (in association with Peabody School of Music). She earned her first union card (Actors Equity Association) through her summer stock work at the Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan. She was Assistant Director of Theatre at Georgia State University for a little over a year before moving to New York City. At Georgia State she taught an acting class, and directed Georgia State's first musical, THE FANTASTICKS. She also directed THE ODD COUPLE, and A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM. After she moved to New York, she appeared in many Off and Off-Off Broadway plays, as well as on TV. She has recently (August 2003) made a temporary move to Los Angeles. Her current program bio is as follows: Deborah Cresswell has played all ages and types from leading ladies to quirky characters. Some of her NY stage credits include IN MY DREAMS (NativeAliens Theatre Collective), A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (Roundabout Theatre), CRIMES OF THE HEART (The Real Stage), DEATH OF A SALESMAN (Theatre Projects), SELLING OFF (John Houseman Theatre), and SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER (Hudson Guild). In daytime television dramas she appeared in the recurring role of Ms. Capshaw, nanny to Erica Kane's daughter, Bianca, in ALL MY CHILDREN, Felice in AS THE WORLD TURNS, the Barrio Woman in AS THE WORLD TURNS, as well as appearances on Search for Tomorrow and Guiding Light. In primetime, she has appeared on NBC's ED as Martha Pulido, on LAW & ORDER as social worker Martha Robertson, and on another LAW & ORDER as Paula Dunbar (the murderer's secretary!).
