Irwin Allen began his film career as a film producer in the late fifties. He soon made a name for himself with science fiction films such as "The Lost Wolrd" (1960) and "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" (1961) which was made into a successful television series of the same name. With the success of his first television series, he soon followed up with Lost in Space, Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants. By 1970 Irwin Allen went back to producing films and became known as "The Master of Disaster" with films like "The Poseidon Adventure" and "The Towering Inferno". Irwin Allen won an Academy Award in 1952 for Best Documentary Feature for "The Sea Around Us".moreless
