  • When the public first met Kate Gosselin, she was a young married woman who, along with her husband Jon, was struggling to raise their family of eight children. After giving birth to twin girls and sextuplets within seven years, Jon and Kate received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to star in a reality series with their kids. Entitled "Jon and Kate Plus 8," the show highlighted the joys and tribulations of raising multiples. Following a messy public divorce from Jon, Kate is now continuing in the spotlight with her children with a newly launched series, "Kate Plus 8." Kate also enjoyed a stint on "Dancing With the Stars" in 2010, has written three books about her experiences with motherhood, and is in talks to develop a new show of her own with TLC, the same television network that made the family's original series a success. Kate and her brood appeared on a December 2010 episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska, in which the group went camping. People reported in Decebmer 2010 that Gosselin is number five on the list of highly paid reality stars, earning 3.5 million a year. Much controversy surrounds Gosselin's kids. Critics say that she has her kids working and out of school more than is healthy or appropriate. Underscoring such scrutiny were reports that two of her children, Alexis and Collin, were expelled from school. • Kate Gosselin: We will never feel normal again, TV show or not. Does anyone see a family with twins and sextuplets every day? No. It took me until the little kids were almost 2 to completely accept it.

    • Kate Gosselin: Just to put it out there, I am who I am. I do not care how you see me. Call me crazy, but it's out there because I'm not perfect, and I will never boast that I'm perfect. Everybody makes mistakes, and so...I'm not the expert. I am learning parenting as I go, just like every other parent, so if you want to watch the screaming and turn it off and be glad you have two kids, great.

    • Kate Gosselin: (in 2009, after Jon publicly said that he "despised" her) You know, of course everybody's asking me, is that upsetting? Does that bother you? Well, of course it bothers me. Am I going to return the favor [by saying that I despise him too]? Absolutely not. I never will. I am a high road taker, and...I'll continue to say it. I need to do this [show] for my kids. I need to continue on, and I need to, um, you know, whatever's gonna play out, they will see. I don't need to say it.

    • Kate Gosselin: (about her husband dating other girls immediately after filing for divorce) I didn't know he had it in him to act like this. Is he trying to take me down completely? I don't know. I can't figure it out...call me crazy, but deep down, I still have this hope that one morning, the phone will ring and it will be him, back to normal, just saying, "Hey, how are you?" or even, "Okay, that was really weird; aliens overtook me, but now I'm back." I didn't know how to describe it for a long time, but that explanation seems to work. Aliens have taken him away.

    • Kate Gosselin: (about marrying Jon at 24) If I could go back and talk to that young girl, I would say, 'Don't do it.' Of course I wouldn't change things, because then I wouldn't have my kids. But that doesn't mean that other things weren't regrettable. I got caught up with the fairy tale - people saying, 'You guys are like Barbie and Ken!' If we heard that once, we heard it a million times. But, wow, I was so young. I wanted to be a mom, and the rest is history.

    • Not long after giving birth to their twin daughters, Kate started longing for a third child. She and Jon seriously considered adopting a little boy, but it never happened. According to Kate's 2004 memoir Multiple Blessings, Jon said the final "no", but they both knew in their hearts that it was not right for them. They ended up having their sextuplets shortly after that.

    • Shortly after announcing her divorce from Jon Gosselin in 2009, Kate publicly declared that she had done "everything I could to keep our family together." On her family's reality show, Jon and Kate Plus 8, she claimed that she wanted to talk it out with Jon and try to fix things, but he refused to speak to her, and he ordered her to get a divorce lawyer before she even realized what was happening. Jon, however, had a completely different story. Through an exclusive interview on Good Morning America in September 2009, he said that she initiated the divorce, while he spent thousands of dollars going to therapy/counseling, which she refused to attend with him. He also said that they eventually went to Dr. Phil together in California, but Kate's only concern was figuring out how to fix the image of the show itself, which ultimately meant hiding their marital issues from the world. Jon described the whole meeting with Dr. Phil as "weird."

    • Kate likes to take charge and keep order in her house.

    • Kate has three sisters named Kendra, Rissa, Chris and a brother named Kevin.

    • Kate had a tummy tuck in 2006, which was provided to her at no charge. Interestingly, her surgeon was Dr. Glassman, and shortly after Jon and Kate announced their split, Jon dated Dr. Glassman's daughter Hailey.
