  • Scott Adams was born on June 8, 1957 in Windham, New York, located in the Catskill Mountains. He graduated high school as valedictorian because the other 39 people in his class couldn't spell "valedictorian." He moved to Northern California in 1979 after college and have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since. His post-secondary education consists of: Hartwick College, Oneonta New York, BA in economics, 1979. University of California at Berkeley, MBA, 1986. Certified Hypnotist, Clement School of Hypnosis, San Francisco, 1981. Scott held, in his own words, "a variety of humiliating and low paying jobs", which include: bank teller (robbed twice at gunpoint), computer programmer, financial analyst, product manager, commercial lender, budget manager, strategist, project manager and pseudo-engineer, during his eight years at Crocker National Bank (1979-1986) and eight years at Pacific Bell (1986-1995). During boring meetings, Scott would entertain himself by doodling satirical comics of his bosses and coworkers. A central character name Dilbert eventually emerged from his drawings. In 1988, Scott mailed sample Dilbert comics to the major cartoon syndicates. He was initially rejected, until United Feature Syndicate offered him a contract. Dilbert launched in about 35 newspapers in 1989. Scott continued his day job at Pacific Bell for another 6 years, before leaving to devote more of his time to Dilbert. He now spends the bulk of his time on Dilbert related activities, such as speaking, writing, doing interviews, designing licensed products and answering hundreds of e-mail messages per day. Dilbert is currently published in over 2,000 newspapers, in 65 countries. Adams has 35 books in print – over 10 million sold – including two number-one New York Times best sellers. He is the co-owner of two restaurants: Stacey’s Café and Stacey’s at Waterford, in the San Francisco Bay Area. He released his first non-Dilbert book "God's Debris", in 2001. It was followed up with "The Religion War" in 2004. "God's Debris" is now available for free online. His blog "The Dilbert Blog" was started in October, 2004. This is a supplement to "The Dilbert Newsletter", which he began in 1994. He married Shelley Miles on July 22, 2006.moreless
