  • Shannen: Look, there are three things that have allowed me to work for as long as I've worked. The first is my fans. The second is my talent. And the third is my competitive nature. I hate sucking at anything.

  • Shannen: (In 2008, about Tori Spelling writing negative things about her in her autobiography) I had certain pages sent to me. The vast majority of it was over-exaggerated. Maybe it's just a difference in how I was raised. I just don't think you write personal experiences about your co-stars in a book. In 27 years of acting, I have never sold out any of my cast members, and I will stick to that.

  • Shannen: (on reuniting with former rival Jennie Garth for the 90210 spinoff) The only bad thing was that while we were trying to catch up with each other, people were constantly watching us. Every single eyeball was on us. I don't know what they were expecting. I was more interested in talking to Jennie about Dancing With the Stars. I thought she was amazing. Of course I voted for her.

  • Shannen: I've always been a bit of a loner. I love hanging out with my friends, but it gets to a point where I'm like, "Okay, that's enough. Go home. I need to be alone!"

  • Shannen: (disputing Tori Spelling's claims that Shannen and Jennie Garth came to blows on Beverly Hills, 90210) We never did. I think I would remember Jennie's fist connecting with a part of my body or a part of my face. It just goes to show you how people will lie.

  • Shannen: (on being in the 90210 spinoff) It started with someone calling my agent and saying, "Is this something she would do?" I was like, "Play Brenda Walsh again? Why would I do that?" There were 'I Hate Brenda' newsletters! She was exhausting to play. She had so much teen angst. I couldn't take it anymore. But then my friends started sending me links to all these websites that wanted me back. I was so incredibly overwhelmed that it got me thinking. Everything I have is because of the fans. This was my way of saying thank you.

  • Shannen: (On returning to 90210) It would be so irresponsible of me to mess things up again. Because I feel like... I have this weird responsibility. I pushed and I tested those boundaries and there's a reason why I've been given so many chances.

  • Shannen: The fortunate thing is that I've been working in this business for so long, and I have strong parents who taught me not to let that stuff go to my head. It's just a job. Some people make french fries at McDonald's. I get my hair and make-up done and go act. It's all the same thing in the long run.

Trivia (78)

  • Actress Melissa Gilbert played Shannen's aunt on Little House on the Prairie: A New Beginning, when Shannen was just a child. Gilbert said that at the time, Shannen was "an adorable little girl and very sweet". Years later, however, Gilbert claims that Shannen slept with her first husband while they were separated, but not yet divorced. Since then, the two actresses have had very minimal contact with each other, aside from a small confrontation that they had at an awards show while Shannen's hit show, Beverly Hills, 90210, was popular.

  • Shannen fondly remembers playing 10-year-old Jenny Wilder on Little House on the Prairie for a year. She claims that in her entire career, she has never worked with a "more affectionate group," going on to say that "everyone in the cast was family."

  • In 2009, Shannen will be appearing in the TV movie Encounter with Danger. It's a thriller in which her character is searching for her boyfriend (played by Mark Humphrey) who has disappeared while on vacation.

  • In July 2008, it was announced that Shannen would be reprising her role as Brenda Walsh on the highly anticipated Beverly Hills, 90210 spinoff. Jennie Garth (Kelly Taylor), with whom Shannen feuded with in the past, has also signed on for the project.

  • On the set of Beverly Hills, 90210, when Shannen used to come in late and make up lame excuses, her co-star Ian Ziering finally lost it and called her a c***, and then, after a few seconds of dead silence, said, "Can't Understand Normal Thinking." Tori Spelling, who also starred on the show, said this was a really shocking moment, because Ziering was a typically sweet guy who never said a bad thing about anyone.

  • Part of Tori Spelling's autobiographical memoir, which was released in early 2008, discussed Shannen's bad behavior on the set of 90210. Spelling talked about how Shannen "took her under her wing" and introduced her to her partying ways, but despite Shannen's bad girl ways, Spelling liked her and was friends with her. However, as Shannen's behavior worsened, Spelling "didn't want to betray her," but she finally agreed to support the decision to have Shannen fired from the show. "When she left, I felt the same as everyone else, like I could breathe again," Spelling wrote.

  • Despite constant rumors of on set rivalries during her time on Beverly Hills, 90210, she was close to both Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green, who defended her behavior to the press numerous times.

  • As a child, she worked on the hit television series Little House on the Prairie for its final two seasons, portraying Laura and Almanzo's niece Jenny. Susan McCray, who took part in the show's casting, has said that Shannen is right up there with Melissa Gilbert (who played Laura Ingalls Wilder on the series) as one of the most natural and talented child actors she has ever seen.
