  • Biography
  • The Ramones started with Joey Ramone on drums, Johnny Ramone on guitar and Dee Dee Ramone on bass and vocals. Tommy Ramone was then an employee of the studio, and after several times helping Joey to get some beats straight, ended up joining the band, while Joey took over the lead vocals since Dee Dee had problems singing for an (although brief) entire set while continually playing. They played their first show at the Performance Studio in New York on March 30, 1974. The band broke up, after spot in the 1996 Lollapalooza festival because of ongoing personality clashes and frustration at not achieving success commensurate with their influence. They played their final show at the Palace in Hollywood on August 6, 1996. The last time that all the ex-members of the Ramones (except Richie Ramone) got together before Joey's death was at an autograph signing at Tower Records in New York. In 2002, the band was introduced to the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. At the ceremony, Johnny, Tommy, Marky and Dee Dee spoke on behalf of the band. Johnny blessed George Bush and its Presidency. Dee Dee congratulated and thanked himself. On April 15, 2001, Joey died of lymphoma in New York. Dee Dee died of a heroin overdose on June 5, 2002 in his Hollywood home. Johnny died of prostate cancer September 15, 2004 in Los Angeles.moreless
