  • Tony: (accepting his third Emmy) There's been a terrible mistake. I never win anything. I just want to say it's gratifying to be chosen from such a distinguished group of losers -- actors. Comedy, comedic performing actors, you know, whatever.

  • Tony: (on Monk) I feel that over the past four years, the past four seasons that I've been doing this show, I have become a little more Monk-ish in my life. I think it's because I spend a lot of time, you know, in the mindset of the character and I admit, it does spill over into my life. Just yesterday I spent about three hours washing windows at my house! It was five windows, but it took me forever. You always have those little streaks in there, and I was determined to get rid of them.

  • Tony: (accepting his Emmy) To my fellow nominees, whoever they are--I'm not that familiar with their work--I just want to say, there's always next year -except, you know, for Ray Romano.

  • Tony: (about directing Made-Up with his wife) It was really an experience, being my first time directing a movie. The scenes that I was in, Brooke really directed me all the time. And the scenes that both of us were in, Brooke directed those. Come to think of it, Brooke directed most of the scenes.

  • Tony: I was really a theatre actor. When I got out of graduate school I worked at a rep theatre in Cambridge, Mass., for four seasons, I left there for NYC and spent six years off and on Broadway, public theatre, Shakespeare in the park, regional theatre-it was my entire existence really.
