  • A San Francisco newspaper film critic becomes pregnant after a hookup with a much younger man and together they raise a non-traditional family. Golden Globe Award winner Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg) plays Billie, who after a hard breakup with her boss, James (Melrose Place's Grant Show) then gets knocked up by Zack (Windfall's Jon Foster). They agree on an unconventional arrangement to raise the child and live together platonically. But when Zack's friends turn her place into a frat house, Billie isn't sure that the plan can work out. Completing the cast are Ashley Jensen (Ugly Betty) as Billie's best friend Olivia, Lennon Parham as her younger married sister Abby, and Nicolas Wright as Davis, one of Zack's freeloading friends. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Mary F. Pols, Accidentally on Purpose is executive-produced by Lloyd Braun, Gail Berman, Gene Stein, and Claudia Lonow with CBS Television Studios.moreless

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (83)

    • Zack: You know, I bet my buds I could go a whole day eating and drinking only things that end in 'tos.' Mojitos, burritos, taquitos. Billie: I did that once, but with things that end in 'oni.' Pepperoni, spumoni, calzone. But there wasn't a bet involved. My sorority was just full of bulimics.

    • James: You should know that I know Krav Maga. Zack: Fine, call him. I'll fight him, too!

    • Billie: Look, I know this may sound nuts, but I'm thinking of going home with a guy who may be significantly younger than me, and I just need to know if the situation is empowering or desperate. Olivia: Is he over 18? Billie: Yeah. Olivia: Empowering!

    • James: (to Billie) Look, when we started dating, I told you I didn't want to get married again. And you said, 'Oh my God! Do you own this plane?'

    • Abby: I mean, look how happy I am since I married Nick. And you know why? Because he is stable, well-balanced, supportive. Billie: Yes! Nick would make a good chair.

    • Zack: I'm running out of charming. I think I've got some more back in my apartment. And some homemade ravioli. What do you say? Billie: Abso-maybe!

    • Billie: Please pay attention. This is the most important moment of my life. Olivia: Nnohhh, your first pregancy test. That's adorable!

    • Abby: Didn't you use condoms? Billie: I guess it turns out they're not 100% effective unless you actually take them out of your purse. Olivia: Billie, Billie, Billie, always use a condom... and an alias.

    Trivia (8)

    • Among the movie posters found in Billie's apartment are An American Werewolf in London, Gilda, Mata Hari, Niagara, and Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.

    • According to their animals in the chinese zodiac, Zack (rat) was born in 1984 or 1985, Abby (monkey) was born in 1968 or 1969, and Davis (tiger) was born in 1986 or 1987.

    • In the pilot episode, the movie poster found just outside the spare room is Rita Hayworth's Gilda (1946). In this episode, it is replaced with Fred Astaire's 1940 musical film Broadway Qui Danse (aka Broadway Melody of 1940).

    • The flashback of Billie sneaking out of Zack's room and the actual occurrence in the pilot episode do not match. Ryan is wearing an entirely different outfit. A third person is no longer lying on the sofa in the flashback. Several items in the living room are also in the flashback that aren't originally in the pilot. Even the guys' reaction to Billie pointing out that the hooker in the video game's still moving is different.

    • Billie says that her new boobs let her do the trick from Grease. But the no-hands lipstick bit was from The Breakfast Club.

    • The "movie" the gang is watching towards the end of the episode is a made-up one since Matthew McConaughey and Katherine Heigl have yet to work in a film together.

    • During the last restaurant scene where Zack is charging over to James, Zack is holding his right arm up and is ready to punch James with his right fist. However, in the next scene when both are holding ice bags, Zack indicates that his left hand is in pain and states that James has a hard face. Also, Zack is holding the ice bag on his left cheek, which means that James punched him with his left fist.

    • When Davis is pretending to go downstairs behind the box, we can see that Zack is laughing, but in the next shot his face is serious and then he is just smiling a little.

    • Billie: You had me at 'naked'. "You had me at 'hello'" is a famous line by Dorothy (Renée Zellweger) to Jerry (Tom Cruise) in the 1996 romantic-dramedy film Jerry Maguire.

    • Episode Title: Memento is the 2000 Oscar-nominated drama film which stars Guy Pearce (Leonard) as a man who loses his memory and uses notes, photos, and other clues to track down his wife's killer.
