  • Episode Description
  • Eddie, a friend of Dominic's, was once a pilot until a air crash in which his passengers were killed, causing him to lose his nerve and turn to drink as a result. Living alone in his trailer in the desert, Eddie's alcohol problem has recently become even worse after supposedly seeing lights in the sky in the middle of the night. Though trying to help his friend, Dominic is as sceptical as everyone else, blaming the sightings on Eddie's drunken state, until one night he sees the lights too. The next morning, Hawke arrives to find that the pair of them have vanished, and in searching for them, stumbles upon a fanatical militarist's organisation, who is planning to launch his own nuclear missile against Russia...moreless

  • Quotes (3)

    • Dominic: (as Eddie wakes up in he hospital) You look like hell, you know that?
Eddie: I didn't want to show up my friends.

    • Dominic: Eddie, nobody can live your life for you. You have to figure it out for yourself. When you do, call me.

    • Eddie: Anybody that depends on a drunk is a fool! String: Not unless you have to depend on that drunk to help save millions of lives. Buddy, you're it!

    Notes (2)

    • Eugene Roch (Eddie) previously appeared as Senator Deitz in the Pilot episode.

    • Alex Cord and Jean Bruce Scott are credited but don't appear.

    Trivia (5)

    • The fourth season episode 'Salvage' re-works much of the premise of this episode, with a disturbed character living alone in a deserted area seeing strange lights and hearing strange noises in the middle of the night. (In that case, the cause was a hi-tech helicopter, in an excuse to recycle footage from the third season episode 'Airwolf II').

    • When Hawke and Dominic are surveying the desert in Airwolf to see if they can find any clues to Eddie's alleged sightings, Dom records their surveillance pictures on a Compact Disk – something that would be the very cutting edge of technology then in 1984, that is nowadays common-place on home computers. (And not only can you record on CDs now, you can watch this episode on one – and the season's been released on DVD in the UK too!)

    • Hawke states that he can fly Airwolf alone, but needs someone to bring the munitions online. Yet in the episode "Sins of the Past", he is quite capable of single-handedly blowing the snot out of the casino. Either this is a goof, or Hawke told Eddie a little white lie in order to get him to believe in himself again.

    • When Hawke goes to get Airwolf from the lair, he is wearing his flightsuit as he takes off. In the next shot, however, and for the remainder of the flying scenes, he is wearing the shirt and jeans he was wearing when he went to the lair.

    • When Hawke, on his way to Eddie's cabin, forces the first of the two jeeps off of the road, look towards the bottom of the picture – there are three people in the middle of nowhere, that seem to be film crew!

    Allusions (1)

    • Episode Title: "Firestorm" Firestorm is a conflagration which attains such intensity that it creates and sustains its own wind system. It is most commonly a natural phenomenon, created during forest fires, and some of the largest forest fires, such as the Great Peshtigo Fire, have been firestorms. A firestorm can also be a deliberate effect of targeted explosives such as occurred as a result of the aerial bombings of Dresden and Tokyo during World War II.
