    • Opening Narration Alfred Hitchcock: Did you ever have a feeling you were being watched? (camera pans to a large eye painted on the wall behind Hitchcock) Observe closely: no eyelid. It never sleeps. Obviously, an ideal audience. Unfortunately, it doesn't watch television. It isn't watching me, it's watching you. If you're watching me, please don't tell me. I love television, as a performer that is, but I fear the wrong person is being paid. Actors receive salary, but the viewers – the people who do the really hard work – don't make a cent. It seems to me that television is exactly like a gun. You're enjoyment of it is determined by which end you're on. Tonight we plan to tell a story about this gun, and what a very ordinary man did with it in the course of twenty-four hours.

    • Closing Narration Alfred Hitchcock: Very educational. Next week, we shall return with another story. I suggest you join us. It might be unwise to disappoint…(looks at eye) Big Brother.
