Archie, Edith and Stephanie arrive in California to spend Christmas with Mike and Gloria. Little do the Bunkers know that Mike and Gloria are separated and heading for divorce. Mike wants to tell Archie and Edith, but Gloria does not.
As most two-part episodes do, this episode does a good job of setting the mood for things to come. The opening scene of the Bunkers arriving at LAX is well done, but the slapstick sequence of the everybody's bags changing hands was not necessary and is probably better suited for I Love Lucy. The same can be said for the scenes of Gloria having trouble sleeping in the chair. Those scenes, while not needed, do not take away from the overall enjoyment of seeing the four original cast members together for the last time. This episode should not be missed.moreless
