News Briefs: The American Horror Story: Coven Finale Conjured Up Some Impressive Ratings

BUT STILL NOT BETTER THAN DUDES ON MOTORCYCLES NEWS

... Last night's American Horror Story:Coven finale drew the eyeballs of 4.2 million total viewers in its first airing (the number jumps to 5.8 million once you add encores), making it the most-watched AHS finale to date. Coven also happens to be the most-watched season of AHS to date. Perhaps this isn't all that surprising given the caliber of the Season 3 cast; Jessica Lange and Frances Conroy are legendary actresses, sure, but the addition of Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett definitely helped to raise the bar. Once Live+7 numbers are in, the episode could end up being the series highest-rated hour ever. [FX via press release]

BUSINESS TIME

... Matthew McConaughey and Amy Adams will both appear on Inside the Actors Studio in February. Adams' episode airs Wednesday, February 19 at 8pm, and McConaughey's will follow on Thursday, February 20 at 8pm. I really hope James Lipton asks the tough questions of McConaughey, like "Do you still love high school girls?" and "What was it like to work with Jennifer Lopez?" [Bravo via press release]

... Ian Ziering and Tara Reid recently pooled their money together and realized they only have enough for a forty of Colt 45 and a Snickers, so it looks like both of them will return to Syfy for Sharknado 2: The Second One. Negotiations were said to be "tense," but Ziering finally agreed to let Reid buy the 12-pack of Busch Light and now they're cool again. [NY Daily News]

... Jerry Seinfeld has confirmed that he's filmed something relating to or about Seinfeld, but won't say much else on the topic. Is it a reunion? Is it a dream sequence in Veep in which Selina is convinced she's Elaine (please, oh please let it be this)? Of course, what actually counts as a reunion is highly debatable, at least according to TV.com's resident Reunion Export Tim Surette, so I'll reserve judgement until we know more about the project. [CBS New York]

... This just in: David Tennant's American accent is said to be "fantastic," according to Broadchurch/Gracepoint creator Chris Chibnall. Chibnall then exclaimed, "Allons-y, we've got work to do!" before running off and screaming "Geronimo!" at the top of his lungs. [RadioTimes]

... WGN America, which will soon be home of Hobo Shane West, will also soon be home to the less hobo-ish Sherlock Holmes. The network has acquired the exclusive off-network rights to CBS's hit drama Elementary. Maybe it's actually time to figure out where that WGN America station is in your cable package, friends. [CBS via press release]

... Nominations for the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced today, and the nominees include Orphan BlackPretty Little LiarsOrange Is the New Black, and Supernatural. I don't want to appear biased, but #TeamFelix. [TV Line]

... MTV has ordered to series Finding Carter, a new 12-episode drama from Lizzie McGuire creator Terri Minsky. Kathryn Prescott, who just landed a guest-starring role on The CW's Reign, will play the lead character of Carter Stevens, a girl who discovers that her fun-loving mom actually kidnapped her as a baby, and now she must return to her biological family. This could be successful, but I think it needs more hunky werewolves. [Variety]

...Earlier today we showed you the official trailer for Robert Rodriquez's From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series. Now we can tell you that it will also celebrate its world premiere at SXSW 2014. There's no official date or time yet, but if you're going to SXSW, maybe add it to your to-do list. [El Rey via press release]

.. TLC has ordered to series My Five Wives, which is exactly what is sounds like. Did we need another polygamy show? And furthermore, did TLC need another polygamy show? It debuts March 9. [TLC via press release]

... ABC has given pilot orders to both Selfie and Damaged Goods. The former is a comedy from Suburgatory's Emily Kapnek, and follows a 20-something woman who's obsessed with social media until she goes through a humiliating breakup and becomes a viral video sensation herself. That leads me right into Damaged Goods, which is from Awkward.'s Lauren Iungerich and explores the "sexual politics that have changed between men and women in this post-feminist era." Discuss. [EW]

CASTING NEWS

... Now that Jennifer Carpenter is free of Dexter's murderous (and bearded) clutches, she's landed a role in the new ABC pilot Sea of Fire, where she'll play an FBI agent. *insert clever ocean joke here* The premise is this: When three small-town teenagers featured in a porno turn up missing and/or dead, Carpenter's character Leah is called in to investigate. The project is based on yet another Dutch series called Vuurzee. I think I'd be a bit more intrigued if this wasn't on ABC. Whatchu guys think? It'd be cool on cable, right? [TV Line]

... Friday Night Light's Dora Madison Burge (formerly known as Madison Burge) has signed on for a pretty big role in The CW's new teen alien drama Star-Crossed. The part will reunite her with former FNL costars Aimee Teegarden and Grey Damon, though I don't remember Becky's path ever crossing with either Julie Taylor or Hastings Ruckle, so maybe it'll be super awkward on set. Hmmmm. ANYWAY, Burge will play Zoe, a member of the cool kids' club who might not be exactly what she seems. Kind of like Becky in a way, I guess. [Zap2It]

... Chef Robert Irvine, who generally frightens me and makes me never want to go on national TV for fear that he might track me down and tell me that taquitos are not an adequate source of nutrition, is guest-starring on Melissa and Joey on February 5 as celebrity chef Malcolm Sunderland. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't get along well with Joe and they butt heads over cooking styles. SEE WHAT I'M SAYING? [ABC Family via press release]

Coven is over! so freakin' sad. but man, what an ending! fan-f-ing-tastic! best episode of AHS ever. Angela Bassett needs to always be in everything cuz she's the bomb. (sorry for the out-dated slang)
Everyone check out "Africans in America: America's Journey Through Slavery." She narrated it so well, her voice is like butter. Not at all like AHS of course but it made me love her so much that seeing her on the screen is just wonderful.

Instead of trying to make Tennant's American accent believable by putting out press shit, why not just let him act in an English accent? He seems pretty good with it, and it's far more understandable than his native Scottish while being far more believable than his awful American.

Oh ABC, you really are never going to change, your shows are for shallow women who don't want to face that. Just admit it, network, you're trying to eat Lifetime and Oxygen and OWN's lunch.

So a show that is now actually murder-porn. (Trey Parker and Matt Stone have to be howling at this one.) Who are the geniuses in charge over the joke that is ABC programming? They completely dive-bombed this season and now they're just going with the status quo - another show about cops and gruesome murders to primarily female victims where they are degraded, abused, or sexually traumatized before being killed. This is just getting old. Is it that bad that this programming is what is entertaining on network? CBS is the highest rated network and that is their 'go to' in the majority of their crime Dramas. Who knew SVU would have such a bad ripple effect in television? Jennifer Carpenter is better than a role in the same-old-sh!t. Take a role that elevates its female characters and causes thought not shock - 'cause shock wears off pretty quickly. So quickly that another show is going to be on tomorrow that is going to repeat the cycle with another actor I can't even remember. (I'm looking at you too Canadian goddess Tricia Helfer - so much better than that garbage you landed in on ABC.) Just needed to vent. Apologies. Loved Kathryn Prescott in 'Skins' , (Emily and Naomi) -great to see her getting roles. She was the seemingly rare case of playing an identical twin with her identical twin. UK 'Skins' must be one of the most productive places to start an acting career. Members of this constantly changing enormous cast seem to be everywhere and they're more often than not very good actors/actresses.

I have no problem with 'a serbian film' but I dislike anything by eli roth... do you think murder-porn might be more to my taste?

  • Bottron Feb 01, 2014

I will probably watch both "Selfie" and "Damages Goods" as I watch both "Suburgatory" and "Awkward" so...

  • torque_smacky Jan 31, 2014

    "SELFIE: THE SERIEEEEEES!!!!"

Okay, now it's gone too far.

  • Svanehjerte Jan 31, 2014

Another great season of AHS is over. :(

    Sharknado 2 - woohoo!

My Five Wives - disgusting polygamists!

Selfie and Damaged Goods sound awful...

Sea of Fire - sounds AWFUL! Thank goodness it's NOT on cable so it won't have to be even more perverted. I mean, some porno teens missing - WHO CARES! I wish they all disappeared from the face of the Earth.

  • itsmemadie01 Jan 31, 2014

I love Jennifer Carpenter and as for AHS Sarah Paulson is awesome this season I hope she gets a major award for her acting because if her AHS season 2 performance did not get her an Emmy then no one deserves it.

  • JasonMelvil Jan 31, 2014

Why would supernatural be up for glaad? Did they even have a gay character in it? More importantly, why isn't teen wolf?

  • liisterinen Jan 31, 2014

as long as it is with jennifer carpenter i don`t care. it can`t be worse than dexter`s finale season.

  • TrevPlatt Jan 31, 2014

If Sea of Fire was on Cinemax they'd probably show us the video - and it'd already be renewed for a second season!

WGN have got Salem coming in April, it seems like they are actually making an effort to try and grab some viewers!
