    • Cordelia: I didn't know you were in L.A.; are you living here? Angel: Yeah... You? Cordelia: Malibu. A small condo on a beach. It's not a private beach, but, you know, I'm young, so I forbear.

    • Tina: Well, it was nice threatening you.

    • Doyle: You know, there's a lot of people in this city need helping. Angel: So I noticed. Doyle: You game? Angel: I'm game.

    • Tina: I came here to be a famous movie star. But, they weren't hiring.

    • Angel: Okay, you've told me the story of my life which, since I was there, I already knew... Why aren't I kicking you out?

    • "City Of" was one of the pilot episodes of several popular WB series (along with Felicity, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dawson's Creek) that were featured in The WB's farewell broadcast on September 17, 2006.

    • Music: While Angel is watching Tina -- "Maybe I Belong" by Howie Beck At Margo's party -- "Ladyshave" and "Teenage Sensation" by Gus Gus In the pool hall -- "Right of Left Field" by Wellwater Conspiracy

    • Doyle wasn't originally supposed to be an Irishman but was written as such when Glenn Quinn was cast as Doyle. The role of Doyle was Glenn Quinn's first role where he was able to use his own Irish accent.

    • The word "Wolfram" is German, and is also the chemical name for the substance "Tungsten" - the wire in a lightbulb.

    • Angel's sidekick for the series wasn't initially intended to be Doyle. The original scripts featured Whistler who appeared in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes "Becoming Part One" (2x21) and "Becoming Part Two" (2x22).

    Trivia (16)

    • When Angel is investigating on the library computers, neither of the articles relates to their headlines. The first article about a murder victim actually consists of three unrelated paragraphs involving an ex-wife, recycling, and rhino horns. The second re-uses and extends the recycling paragraph from the first.

On a trivia note, most of those same paragraphs were previously used on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in 1x05 "Never Kill a Boy on the First Date."

    • When Russell and Cordelia are talking in his mansion a close up shot shows his hair at a shorter length, but when they go to a farther shot it's longer again.

    • When Angel is grabbing Tina by the arm and she pulls him into the sunlight, his arm immediately goes up in flames. But in every episode of Buffy preceding this and in most episodes of Angel following this a vampire has to stay in the sunlight for several seconds before the fire comes.

    • When Cordelia meditates, you see a green book with a dollar sign on it (Meditation: for a beautiful life by Amanda Smith). In the episode "I Fall to Pieces" (1x04), Dr. Meltzer has the same book on his desk.

    • In the original script, after Angel feels Tina's dead body for a pulse, he tasted the blood that got on his fingers. This was filmed, but eventually cut.

    • Title: City Of Los Angeles, the show's setting, is nicknamed the City of Angels.

    • Cordelia: A cockroach! In the corner! I think it's a bantamweight! Bantamweight is a weight class in boxing. Bantamweight boxers weigh between 112 and 118 pounds (51 and 54 kilograms).

    • Angel: (Gets into wrong convertible) Dammit! The convertible that Angel mistakenly jumps into appears to be the one belonging to vampire Nick Knight from popular Canadian show Forever Knight. Knight drives the same car as Angel is seen driving in this episode. Knight is also a 13th century vampire, making him actually a bit older than Angel himself. The Forever Knight TV movie also takes place in LA, though the series took place in Toronto.

    • Cordelia: I grew up in a nice home. It wasn't like this, but we did have a room or two that we didn't even know what they were for. Until the IRS got all huffy about my folks not paying taxes for, well, ever. They took it all. The IRS is the Internal Revenue Service, who are the agency under the Department Of The Treasury in charge of collecting income taxes in the United States.

    • Doyle: Well, listen, best of luck to you man. I've got some fairly large coin riding on the Vikings tonight, but I'll be there with you in spirit, yeah? The Vikings are the Minnesota Vikings, a football team with the National Football League.
