  • Better than most of the episodes of season three but not overall.

  • One of the many reasons Adama is hands-down the most fascinating character in BSG.

    • Adama: Once a pilot, always a pilot, Bulldog.

    • Tigh: (to Bulldog) Tell you a dirty little secret. The toughest part of getting played is losing your dignity. Feeling like you are not worth the oxygen you are sucking down. You get used to it. You start to believe it. You start to love it. It's like a bottle that never runs dry. You can keep reaching for it over and over and over again. Adama: So how do you put that bottle away, Saul? Tigh: I don't know. One day you just decide to get up and walk out of your room.

    • Roslin: (to Adama) It's naive to think that horrible things that we can't understand have simple explanations, because simple explanations make us feel like we have control, when we don't.

    • Tigh: I heard you won a medal. Adama: Yeah, they give them out for anything these days. Good behavior, attendance, playing well with others.

    • Roslin: I’d like to propose this. You seem hell-bent on paying some kind of penance for whatever it is you think you’ve done. So instead of resigning, why don’t you get up and walk out of here, meet me on the port hangar deck tomorrow evening for this ceremony, and let me pin a frakking medal to your chest? Adama: I can’t. Roslin: It’s not for you. It’s for them. Stand up there, acknowledge your fleet, and give them what they need. A hero. That’ll be your penance, even if it kills you.

    Notes (4)

    • The scene in which Starbuck watches the gun camera footage from her Viper and realizes that the Cylons allowed Bulldog to escape, evokes a scene in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Defector". In that episode, a Romulan defector is chased by two Romulan warbirds that purposely keep their distance, allowing him to reach the USS Enterprise-D. The episode was written by Battlestar Galactica show-runner, Ronald D. Moore.

    • A word was censored from Adama's comment to Bulldog early on in the initial Sci Fi broadcast of the episode. Adama said he had been worried that the Cylons had beaten the ___ attitude out of Bulldog. However, the iTunes version was not censored.

    • Edward James Olmos read the "Previously on Battlestar Galactica" line at the beginning of the episode.

    • As of the beginning of this episode, there are 41,421 survivors, one more than in the previous episode. The additional survivor is Daniel "Bulldog" Novacek.

    Trivia (9)

    • Goof: During the scenes taking place on the Valkyrie, Adama wears the rank insignia of an admiral when he held the rank of commander at the time.

    • William Adama's prior command was the Battlestar Valkyrie.

    • The text on the front cover of the invitation to Adama's medal award ceremony read "William Adama/Our Admiral, Our Leader, Our Friend." The text inside the card read "Join the Presidential Anointing of the Medal of Distinction to William Adama for his 45 years of Courageous Service."

    • The Stealth Star from the flashback was designated 7746VA.

    • In D'Anna Biers/Number Three's dream, she sees a door with the words "End of Line." This is the same phrase uttered by the Cylon Hybrid in the episode "Torn."
