  • show Description
  • "Come live your fantasy in Beverly Hills. Come on and make your dreams come true..." The first lines to the show's theme song set up the entire plot. The teens of Beverly Hills Teen Club excel in pursuing the big 80's 'lifestyles of the pampered & priviledged'. But don't let the money fool you. These are typical everyday teens that are fun-loving, very social, and they actually do homework. They just happen to be very rich! The show's main focus seems to be around Bianca, the mischeivious brunette vixen of the teens. Many episodes center around her schemes that she attempts to attract fame, gain popularity, win contests, and ultimately nab Troy (the male hearthrob) who has his heart set on Lark (good girl and unknowing nemesis to Bianca). Other characters include Gig & Jett (the musical prodigies that love to rock n' roll), Radley (the kick-back surfer guy), Tara (the beautiful southern belle), Shanelle (the reliable & responsible teacher's pet), Pierce (the vain sly dog), Blaze (the down-to-earth country gal), Nikki (the melodramatic actress), Switchboard (the public relations gossiper), Buck (the man who will do anything for a buck), Wilshire (Bianca's confidante and chaffeur), and the two youngest ones Chester (the genius with infinite inventions) & Jillian (the girl in a hurry to grow up). The teens' fantastical Beverly Hills includes the real-life shopping vicinity of Rodeo Drive, their high school, and their frequent hang-out at the Teen Club which includes: a gymnasium, a beach, a snow summit (which also includes a castle!) The show started running weekly in syndication in September of 1987 and continued until December of 1988. A year after syndication ended, Beverly Hills Teens became a part of the cartoon series Maxie's World where 15 minutes of Maxie's world would first air followed by 15 minutes (half an episode) of Beverly Hills Teens. The entire series is available on VHS.moreless

    • Wilshire: (after Bianca destroys his sand castle) The others were right. You're nothing but a homewrecker.

    • Nikki: Oh no, I think it's broken! Tara: Nikki, what happened? You broke your finger? Nikki: Worse than that. My Fingernail!

    • Chester: You have to do it all by hand? How primitive.

    • Bianca: One Vote? You mean, you didn't vote for me?

Wilshire: I couldn't help it. White is my favorite color.

Bianca: I'll give you all the white you want! When I'm finished, you'll be covered in white bandages!..

    • Bianca: I assure you, Fifi, I'm perfect for the part of Juliet. It's just extraordinary typecasting.
Fifi: Do not be overconfident, darling. Some other girl might get the part.
Bianca: Get serious, Fifi, I fill all the requirements. Juliet is very romantic, and very beautiful. What else do I need?
Fifi: Perhaps a talent for acting.
Bianca: What girl has to act when she's kissing Troy?

    • (While surfing and chasing Troy) Jett: I like almost had him. Larke: (sigh) Me too, Jett. Jett: But at least you didn't get your hair wet. Larke: I'd get my hair wet for him anytime.

    • WILSHIRE: "As they say on the slopes, break a leg!" BIANCA: "WHAT?!?!" WILSHIRE: "Or is that the theater?"

    • Bianca: Mmmm. Something up here smells delicious.
Wilshire.: That's fresh air. We're above the smog.
Bianca: Remind me to buy some of this air and have it shipped home.

    Notes (41)

    • Bianca's Scheme: She sets the wave maker to tidal wave frequency

    • The famous wave maker is seen for the first time

    • We see the famous stretch Limo that Larke is driving for the first time.

    • In the premiere episode, we are introduced to the gang's frequent hang out - The Teen Club. It has an exercise and activity room, with an outdoor man-made beach, and a man-made snow summit.

    • When Bianca crosses out Larke's name in the appointment book, it's spelled Lark.

    • The first of many appointments at Fifi's begins in this episode. (Doesn't anybody else think Fifi resembles Marilyn Monroe?)

    • Bianca's Scheme: She sends Empress to chew up Larke's computer disc

    • We learn Larke and Bianca are next-door neighbors.

    Trivia (12)

    • How did a real shark end up in a man-made beach?

    • Maybe it's legal for kids to drive in Beverly Hills (Chester drives Larke to the Midnight Ball).

    • At the clothing store, Wilshire's waist measures 42 inches. But when he removes his shirt, he seems pretty built for someone with a 42 inch waist.

    • Larke's snow sculpture of the ballerina can dance by the push of a button! Not likely, but WOW!

    • The teens just start to dance right in the middle of the street between traffic. I guess there are really nice drivers in Beverly Hills.

    • Switchboard can fly a helicopter. Larke can also fly one too, as she did in "Rampage."

    • At the end of this episode, after Pierce and Bianca fly off, the shot of the rest of the gang has Pierce in Troy's place.

    • In this episode, Pierce receives a videophone call from his mother. This is the first time any of the characters' parents appears and has a speaking role.

    Allusions (5)

    • During Chester's daydream about hang gliding, the bird makes a noise highly reminiscent of Woody Woodpecker's iconic laughter.

    • Bianca: (While covering her nose) "I brought some garlic."
Bianca brings garlic as a weapon to repel the ghost, but Troy and Chester informs her that garlic only works against vampires.

    • After the woman in the jewelry store loses her coat, she screams "Call the Beverly Hills Cops!", probably a reference to the 1984 comedy "Beverly Hills Cop".

    • When climbing the rope, Switchboard says "you've never faced this mild mannered reporter", referring to "mild mannered" being part of the traditional description of Clark Kent.

    • The necklace Ali offers to Bianca is said to come from King Solomon's mines, an allusion to the 1885 novel by H. Rider Haggard.

  • Great cartoon! It's about the wealthy kids living in Beverly Hills, CA. The hair style was big. The shoulder pads were big. The pouf skirts were popular. That was the big 80's style. The mullets were in.

  • I love it. I also found a DVD of it on Amazon, and urge all fans to write to DIC Entertainment to release the rest. I was only four when it came out, but still love it 20 years later.
