  • Originally, Andrew was scheduled to eat with a group of traveling bedouins. They were going to prepare grilled camel meat and have a cook-out. Unfortunately, a sandstorm ruined their camp. Andrew couldn't find any other suitable camel meat for the show, so he and the producers moved on to their next location.

  • In an interview, Andrew claims that he was not looking forward to eating the coconut grubs in this episode. He had just eaten them in the Philippines and thought they were gross. However, in Ecuador the indigenous tribe removed the grub's stomach. This made all the difference, and Andrew enjoyed his second taste of coconuts grubs.

  • Andrew actually spits out his taste of Durian (the world's smelliest fruit).

  • The duck fetuses that Andrew tried are probably 15 days old so the duck/mallard does not appear as a duck/mallard yet. It is enveloped in a white membrane and the local term for it is "balut sa puti" or literally: wrapped in white.

  • This is the first episode to feature Andrew's catch phrase: "If it looks good, eat it." Even though, early in the episode he tells the audience that disgusting-looking foods usually taste neutral.

  • In the end credits, a special thanks is given to: Jim Harlan, Horizon Tours, and Kitty Morse.

  • Andrew uses one of his catch phrases about k'lia-- that it's "an acquired taste", rather than saying he hates it.

  • The roasted suckling pig that Andrew tried is called "conchinillo". These piglets are usually a few days to several weeks old.

  • When trying the k'lia, Andrew slaps his his head and mugs just like Curly Howard did when he tried oyster soup in a Three Stooges short. Larry, Curly and Moe, better known as the Three Stooges, were very famous slapstick comedians with a long history in vaudeville, television and movies (1925-1959).

  • After reporting he is close to where Russell Crowe filmed the movie, Gladiator, Andrew gives himself the gladiator name, Stomachus Maximus. Crowe's name in the movie was Maximus Decimus Meridius.

  • Andrew: Like, buttah! When Andrew tries the roast baby pig, he says, "Like buttah!" imitating Barbra Streisand.

  • Andrew: (about the guards at Buckingham Palace) Those guys have the biggest afros I have ever seen. Complete Dr. J look, it's nice. Dr. J was the nickname of NBA superstar Julius Erving. He played in the 1970s and 80s.

  • The Pronto Dalicatessan Raul Urquizo has named his restaurant a "Dalicatessan" after famed surrealist painter Salvador Dali. Urquizo claims that a lot of his inspiration in the kitchen comes form Dali's work.

  • Andrew compares the sea squirt to the horta, an extra-terrestrial creature from the Star Trek TV-Series.

  • Andrew: Scorpions, Crickets, Ants, Worms Eddie Lin: Oh my. This is a reference to the famous line from 1939's The Wizard of Oz, "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!"

  • Andrew: (about cod sperm chowder) It's sort of a salute to Ron Jeremy in a bowl. Ron Jeremy is considered one of the most famous porn stars of all time after having appeared in more than 1700 adult films.
