  • Episode Description
  • Can a photograph lie? Sleazy lawyer Cato Troxell is on trial for the murder of a Virginia City judge. As proof that he couldn't have done it, he produces a group photograph he's in that was taken at the Ponderosa at the time of the killing. • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (3)

    • Troxell: Ironic isn’t it? One photograph exonerates me of murder, the other one convicts me.

    • Candy: You mean you're not extending the famous Cartwright hospitality?

    • Candy: Were the boys resisting one of your fatherly lectures, Mr. Cartwright? Ben: I'm not in the habit of giving lectures, and if I do, it's possibly because they're needed. Might have been a good idea if your father had given you a few. Candy: Oh he did. Ben: Well obviously they didn't have much effect. Candy: Oh, yes they did; I left home.

    Notes (2)

    • Location sequences filmed at the Janss Conejo Ranch in Southern California.

    • German episode title: "Das Foto-Alibi", meaning "The Photo Alibi".

    Trivia (1)

    • Ben, Hoss, and Joe were told to smile for their pictures, though at this time in history (1868), it was not customary for subjects to smile. It would take a while for the picture to be taken and would be hard for a person to hold a smile for a long period of time.
