  • Notes (5)

    • German episode title: "Geheimbund eiserne Reiter", meaning "Secret Society Iron Riders".

    • Sheriff Roy Coffee is referred to in this episode but does not appear (having left the series at the end of the 1971-1972 season).

    • Like many latter day Bonanza episodes (namely, those featuring Jamie), this episode featured a host of teen-age guest stars and a focus shown on the Virginia City school.

    • Alfred Barker Jr. was credited as Al Barker Jr. Ron Howard was credited as Ronny Howard.

    • Ron Howard guest-stars. The actor and soon-to-be-(big time) director was in between his childhood role of Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show and his other signature role of Richie Cunningham on Happy Days (though the cult classic American Graffiti) was released about a year after this episode aired.

    Trivia (2)

    • Featured Cartwright: Jamie

    • Ben makes at least two references to Hoss' death, most notably toward the end of the show, when the grieving parents of Sonny want to have Ted Hoag (Howard) killed. Ben tells them he doesn't want to see any more bloodshed, particularly since he had "just buried one of my sons."
