  • Episode Description
  • After twelve years in prison, the attempts by the incompetent (though polite) Younger Brothers to recapture their infamous reputation all literally blow up in their faces. Thanks to a sheriff who's read too many pulp westerns, they can't even get themselves arrested. Hoss, Ben, and Little Joe, however, have no trouble getting themselves mistaken for the gang and thrown into the hoosegow.

  • Quotes (1)

    • Cole Younger: (to Ben, inside the Cartwright home) You certainly have a lovely place here. Uh, it's a inspiration. Makes a man wonder if, uh, honesty ain't the best policy. (reflectively) It's so hard to change late in life.

    Notes (3)

    • German episode title: "Hoss und die Younger Bande", meaning "Hoss and the Younger Gang".

    • Little House on the Prairie fans would enjoy a reprisal of this funny, hilarious episode (which showcases Dan Blocker's comedic talents very well) as that series' The Older Brothers. Michael Landon - as he had with several latter-day Bonanza episodes - revised the scripts, using LHOTP characters in place of Bonanza's; however, the outlaws retain the same names - Cole, Bart and Lonnie Younger.

    • Featured Cartwright: Hoss

    Trivia (2)

    • When the sheriff kicks in the door to Hoss' room, it falls straight forward; clearly, there are no hinges on the door.

    • While taking a bath, Hoss sings "I Dream of Jeannie With the Light Brown Hair."
