    • Sophie: Shame on you, Alan. Shame. Benny's been your best friend since you were a baby. So he looks like Mickey Mouse, so what? He's still your friend. Alan: Grandma, there's a lot here I don't think you understand. There are reasons… Sophie: There are always going to be reasons to do the wrong thing. And the smarter the person is, the better the reason is going to be. But it won't make it right. You're a smart boy, Alan. You know the difference between right and wrong. You do right. Let someone else do reasons.

    • Sophie: You know how long I was on that boat? Alan: In the long version, six days. That's only if you're really mad. Three days in the short version, if it's not such a big deal. Sophie: I was on that boat six days. Alan: Oh my God.

    • Alan: So you want to be a teacher? Katie: No, I want to be a pilot. What about you? What do you want to be? Alan: Professional athlete. Katie: What kind? Alan: Any kind; baseball, football, sumo wrestler. Katie: Maybe I can watch you play. Alan: Great. I’ll come watch you fly.

    • Sophie: (When Alan protests choosing his supper choices at breakfast I have to know what to defrost. (opens freezer) Pick. Alan: That brown paper looks good. I'll have what's in there.

    • Phyllis: I don’t want you playing football. How many times do I have to tell you? Jenny Belawski’s sister, Rhonda. Her neighbor Eileen’s son married a girl whose brother was playing football. He lost an eye. Alan: Wow. When it hits that close to home…
