Buffalo Bill

Trivia, Quotes, Notes and Allusions

Notes (17)

  • Received two Emmy nominations, for both writing (Tom Patchett and Jay Tarses) and directing (Tom Patchett). The series received a total of five nominations its first season on the air -- a testament to its acclaim as it only had been on the air a few weeks when the nominations were announced, and only the first five episodes were eligible for submission. Nowadays, of course, this would probably never happen.

  • Jim Drake received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series.

  • DVD title: Mrs. Buffalo Bill.

  • DVD title: Wilkinson's Sword

  • Later given the title "Buffalo Bill Gets M*A*S*H*E*D."

  • DVD title: Hit the Road, Newdell.

  • This may have aired December 15, 1983.

  • #69 on TV Guide's List of the Top 100 television episodes of all time. Ironically, after Buffalo Bill was cancelled, guest star Jim Carrey's first TV series, The Duck Factory, was given its time slot.

Trivia (1)

  • From Steve Gex: My brother & I guest starred (the 2 Zulu warriors) on this episode. I was in my mid 20's & an aspiring writer. I had just moved to LA. My brother (an actor in LA) talked me into auditioning for the show. We & about 20 others guys read for Dennis & Tom. Luckily we both landed the parts (strange). I knew nothing of how this business worked. We rehearsed Monday-Thursday & shot on Friday. This show was shot on film, not video. Better get everything right the first take. Went smooth...All principles were professional and very kind, all great people. I'm not surprised they went on to successful careers.

Allusions (2)

  • Bill says upcoming guest is Scotty Bowman. Bowman was head coach and general manager of the Buffalo Sabres from 1979 to 1987.

  • Title Allusion: Church of the Poisoned Mind was the title of a song from the 80's by Culture Club.
