  • show Description
  • Canada AM is a combination show, featuring news coverage, entertainment, life-style, financial and medical information. The hosts cover the daily news and weather, while also presenting current events and entertainment news. Correspondents provide medical, financial, diet, fitness, gardening and technological advice. On January 28, 2008, Canada AM changed from a 2.5-hour format to a six-hour format, allowing for live coverage across Canada; the show is broadcast on the regular CTV network station from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and then continues from 9 a.m. until noon (eastern time) on the CTV NewsNet (cable channel 62 in Toronto), with hosts from B.C. taking over duties from 10 a.m. (eastern) On June 9, 2008, with no fanfare at all, the six-hour format was dropped. The show continued on with a slightly extended version of four hours, still beginning at 6 a.m. with hosts Marci Ien and Jeff Hutcheson present until joined by Seamus O'Regan and Beverly Thomson at 6:30 a.m.; the show aired on CTV until 9 a.m. at which point it switched over to CTV NewsNet for one more hour, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. In September, 2008, again, with no announcement made, the show dropped the 9 - 10 a.m. hour on CTV NewsNet, simply running for 3 hours on CTV's main station.moreless

    • (reviewing the movie "Because I Said So") Richard Crouse: You know, I didn't pay for this movie and I wanted my money back. If I'd seen this on an airplane, I still would have wanted to walk out.

    • Seamus O'Regan (to Pat Foran): If I were thinking of getting a tattoo, and I'm not, but if I were, are there... I'm not! Would there be certain colours that are easier to remove than others, if I thought I might change my mind down the road?

    • (reviewing "Perfect Strangers" starring Halle Berry and Bruce Willis) Richard Crouse: You can almost see Bruce Willis reaching for the paycheque in some scenes in this movie. It's like he's not even bothering. Seamus (laughing): That's what that look was.

    • (reviewing "Bobby" on dvd) Richard Crouse: I can't believe I'm saying these words... Sharon Stone is good in a movie... named Bobby.

    • (reviewing "The Condemned") Richard Crouse: If you like your villains big and violent, and your heroes even bigger and more violent, then The Condemned is a movie that you're going to enjoy. If you like your heroes to have the emotional depth of a tree trunk, and arms to match, then The Condemned is for you.

    • (his review of "Pirates of the Caribbean") Ricard Crouse: Abandon all hope, ye who enter the theatre. Listen, according to Captain Jack Sparrow, so memorably played by Johnny Depp in the first Pirates of the Caribbean, the pirate motto is: 'Take what you can and give nothing back,' and apparently the filmmakers of Pirates of the Caribbean have adopted that motto as well.

    • Seamus: I think I said 'fuzzy beverages'. Bev: I think you did too. If they're fuzzy beverages, you don't want to drink them. Seamus: You don't want to go near those! Bev: Especially green fuzz. Seamus: Fizzy ones... stay away from the fuzzy ones. That's your health warning for today.

    • (talking to spectators about their sign for family back in Ontario) Jeff: And they're from Wullerton? Spectators: Wolverton. Jeff: Wolverton. Wullerton (spits) is the Corner Gas town!

    Allusions (4)

    • (watching footage of a police officer chasing a bear) Seamus: That's a Darwin Award winner, right there. The Darwin Awards are handed out annually to people who fail the 'survival of the fittest' test. The winners are often not alive to accept the awards as their own stupidity has lead to their untimely death.

    • The heading during Andy Thomas's talk was "TO BOLDLY GO"; this is a reference to the opening monologue of Star Trek which lists their mission goals, and ends with "to boldly go where no man has gone before."

    • (watching a clip from "Dan In Real Life") Seamus: Oh, boy, I haven't seen dancing like that since Elaine Benes. Elaine is a character from Seinfeld, and in the episode 4 of season 8, "The Little Kicks", she displayed her truly terrible dancing skills.

    • Michael Kane, after presenting the business news, laughed at Seamus and Jeff's hot and sticky performance on the Holiday Monday (August 4, 2008) show; he said that he'd been watching it while doing his laundry at a laundromat. Jeff's response to the mocking was: Jeff: You just wait, I'm coming down to the laundromat and putting cement in your washer while you're not looking. This is a reference to the season 2 episode of Seinfeld, The Revenge, in which Jerry helped Kramer put cement into a laundromat washer in order to exact revenge on the laundromat owner.
