  • show Description
  • The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 was based on the hugely successful NES game, Super Mario Bros. 3. It was aired as two episodes along with the second season of Captain N: The Game Master. See that guide for the Captain N cast list and episodes. The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 was produced by DIC. Words to the Opening Sequence: It is a legend no one will forget. Everyone thought King Koopa had left the Mushroom Kingdom. And then his Doom Ship attacked! King Koopa was back with the greatest danger ever known: his Koopa kids. Using their new super powers, the Super Mario Brothers rescued Princess Toadstool and beat back the evil Koopa family. King Koopa: I'll get those plumbers! At first the Koopalings did not have real names because at the the time when the company was making the cartoon they did not know what their names would be, so they made up names for each of the Koopa kids. So the Koopa kids not having their real names in this cartoon is not a mistake or goof. Here are their real and cartoon names: Wendy = Kootie Pie Larry = Cheatsy Ludwig = Kooky Morton = Big Mouth Roy = Bully Lemmy = Hip Iggy = Hop NOTE: For continuity's sake, please refer to the koopalings by their cartoon names in your submissions. Also King Koopa (Bowser) not looking the way he does in the games is not a goof either. NOTE: Though he was called Bowser a few times in this cartoon, he is mainly known as King Koopa, so the guide will usually refer to him as Koopa for continuity's sake. Please refer to him as Koopa in your submissions. NOTE: On the cartoons, Princess Toadstool was never called Peach (her name in all the current games), so the guide will usually refer to her as Princess or Princess Toadstool for continuity's sake. Please refer to her as Princess in your submissions.moreless

    • (Mario and Luigi are disguised as Sledge Brothers) Luigi: Mario, are you sure these disguises will let us sneak aboard Koopa's Doom Ship? Mario: Trust me. You're my own brother, and even I don't recognize ya!

    • Mario (to Luigi): Couldn't see you. The sun was in my eyes. Angry Sun: I was not! (attacks Mario and Luigi)

    • Mario: Come on Prince. Let's kick some Koopa. Cheatsy: Save us! Kooky: No fair! Koopa: I'd like to save you, Koopalings, but I, uh just remembered something. I have an important tail styling appointment in another warp zone. Bye! (Koopa then jups high, hits a note box, which opens a warp pipe, and warps away) Cheatsy: Wait for us! Kooky: We're Koopin' out too! (Cheatsy, Kooky, Bully, and Big Mouth jump in the same warp pipe.)

    • Giant Ninja Parrot: You'd better fix that cage, Mario, or you'll be one sorry plumber. (he squawks as he chases Mario around the castle) Mario: Just what we need: a miserable, squawking, angry, Giant Ninja Parrot!

    • (Koopa unintentionally burns Ninja Big-Mouth's hand and accidentally transforms Mario into a giant ninja with his wand) Koopa: Hey! Who's been fooling with my wands? Mario: Good, Truthful, Honest, Giant, Ninja Mario. That's who!

    • Sledge Brother: Puttin on a little weight aren't you, Mario?

    • Mario: Your not taking over any land you Bowser Koopa!

    • Luigi: (after he attempts to reassemble the sultan's damaged palace with the Koopas' discarded wand, it wilts) Aw, no! The wand's melted! Sultan: But my palace is perfect! (he sees that his palace is back to it's normal stage before the Koopas even attacked it) Mario: In that case, I got first dibs on the jacuzzi!! (he zips into the palace, while his brother chases him up the stairs) Luigi: Oh, no, ya don't! I fixed it! Mario: Well, I rode it! Luigi: Well, I had to kiss Kootie Pie. (Toad laughs)

    Notes (94)

    • All 7 Koopalings appear in both episodes but Kooky, Cheatsy, Big Mouth, and Bully are the only ones to have an important role in "Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas". Kootie Pie is the only koopaling to have an important role in "Reptiles in the Rose Garden".

    • "Sneaky, Lying, Cheating, Giant Ninja Koopas" is obviously a spoof of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". Quick references: 1.) When Koopa was turning his kids into ninjas, you can see Bully (Roy) holding the bo staff (Donatello's weapon). 2.) When the Koopa Kids are breaking the door to Prince Hugo's castle, you can briefly see that Kooky (Ludwig Von) is holding the katana blades (Leonardo's weapon). 3.) When Koopa prepares to change his kids back to normal, Bully (Roy) is holding the nunchucks (Michelangelo's weapon), and Big Mouth (Morton) is holding the bo staff.

    • Both episodes are included on Super Mario Bros: King Koopa Katastrophe DVD.

    • "Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas" is the only episode that features Giant Land.

    • This episode marks the first appearance of Frog Mario and Raccoon Mario.

    • Koopa is Bowser's name in Japan.

    • All of the Koopa Kids' names are changed in this show as well as the Super Mario World show. Originally, they are Larry, Morton Jr., Wendy O., Iggy, Roy, Lemmy, and Ludwig Von. All named after famous musicians and television personalities. Now they are, Cheatsy, Big Mouth, Kootie Pie, Hop, Bully, Hip, and Kooky Von. They were changed for licensing reasons.

    • After Bowser tells a few of his Koopalings to step forward and turns the other ones into Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas, they disappear. Why did Bowser have them step forward anyway?

    Trivia (65)

    • In Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas when Princess Toadstool tricks King Koopa into turning Mario into a Ninja Luigi is wearing Mario's clothes.

    • When Raccoon Luigi gets caught by one of the Koopalings, his outfit turns blue.

    • "Reptiles in the Rose Garden": First appearance of the Doomship.

    • "Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas": The Doomship doesn't appear at all in this episode.

    • When Kooky and Cheatsy say what land they want to take over first, Kooky sounds like Bully

    • Goof: When the Angry Sun goes to go behind the cloud where the Mario Bros. told them to look for the plumbers, the sun disappears before reaching the cloud.

    • While Toad is in "Reptiles in the Rose Garden" he never speaks in that episode.

    • As Big Mouth asks what kingdom they should conquer, one of his fingernails are the same color as him!

    Allusions (7)

    • Big Mouth (Morton): I love being a Koopa!
Not only is the title a spoof of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, but Big Mouth (Morton) is also quoting it. Michaelangelo said a line similar to this in the first Ninja Turtles movie, which was fairly recent by the time this show premiered.

    • Kootie Pie: AAAHHH!!! I'VE BEEN KISSED BY A PLUMBER!!!!
In Charles Shultz's Peanuts comics, whenever Snoopy would kiss Lucy, she would run around saying "AAHH!!! I've been kissed by a dog!:

    • Towards the end of "Never Koop a Koopa", Bowser wears a red cape that makes him resemble King K. Rool from the Donkey Kong series. Of course this is merely a coincidence as the episode aired four years prior to K. Rool's debut in Donkey Kong Country.

    • Title: "Crimes 'R Us" is using the store name, Toys 'R Us.

    • Title: The title of this episode is a reference to the famous Superman line Up, Up And Away!

    • My Kuribo: (Title lyrics and beat) The featured song in "Super Koopa" may be a reference to the song My Sherona. It even has the same beat and similar lyrics.

    • Koopa morphing between power-ups as the Power Pendant overloads: The Terminator suffered a defeat similar to Koopa morphing into his various forms.

  • When DiC renewed the Super Mario Bros. franchise for another series, they made drastic improvements that are sadly underappreciated!
