  • Episode Description
  • This episode starts 12 years after the end of the first Dune miniseries. Duke Paul Atreides has become the emperor of the known universe. However, after an attack he is blinded but he manages to use his visions of the future to 'see'. His concubine, Chani, has given him twins, Leto II and Ghanima. When his children are attacked, Paul is able to use Leto's eyes to see and avert the attack, but in the process loses his visions and is actually blind now. In accordance with Fremen custom, he walks into the desert and leaves his children in the care of his sister, Alia.moreless

  • Trivia & Quotes
  • Quotes (7)

    • Irulan: No longer an emperor, no longer a god. A simple blind Fremen wanders alone into the desert, to die.

    • Alia: I need to remember the future!

    • Irulan: Do you think you are the only woman who truly loves him? Chani: No, but I am the only woman he loves!

    • Irulan: Deceit, after all, is a legitimate tool of statecraft.

    • Leto II (in a vision): To know the future is to be trapped by it. But knowing there's a trap is the first step in evading it. It's the first step along the Golden Path.

    Notes (3)

    • The age difference between Alec Newman and James McAvoy, who play father and son, is only 5 years.

    • Even though this mini-series is called Children of Dune, like the third novel in the series, it also covers the second novel of the series. The first episode more or less covers the events in Dune Messiah, book 2, while episodes 2 and 3 deal with the events from book 3.

    • In 2003, Children of Dune won an Emmy for "Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Miniseries, Movie or Special".

    Trivia (1)

    • All appearances of Jessica Brooks (Ghanima Atreides) and James McAvoy (Leto Atreides II) in this episode are in one of Paul's visions of the future, as their characters are born only at the end of this episode.
