  • show Description
  • The town of Chilly Beach is a ridiculously unsuccessful Canadian resort community, somehow built on the shores of a drifting ice floe in the far, far north. Its two most adventurous residents are Dale and Frank, two hockey-playing, beer-drinking best friends who have spent their whole lives here largely oblivious to the outside world. Along with the rest of the quirky townsfolk, they confront the inhospitable climate, outrageous culture clashes with visiting foreigners, exaggerated Canadian customs both old and new, and whatever other surreal and perilous situations their unique home throws their way.moreless

    • Abby: Excuse me coach, I've noticed that the others members of the church haven't really accept me. Just now one of them told me that I sucks and pushed me off of my chair, is that normal? Dale: Ooh, he wasn't talking to you, he was talking to... uhh... demons. He was trying to push the demons out of you. Abby: I see.

    • Constable Al: Those of you who are infected gathering in this corner please. Those of you who are already dead or soon they'll be so, please in that corner over there. Dale: No!! I'm too young (being push to the death corner). Constable Al: That is being good, form an orderly pile for easy combustion. The rest of you remain in calm, we will be making you as comfortable as possible until such time you can be moving to the death corner.

    • Dale: (screaming tearfully) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

    • TV Announcer: Stay tuned for scenes from the next exciting episode of "The Beachcombers". Dale: Wuo!! That was Great, nothing beats Season 8 Episode 5, I think it's just maybe the best one of all. Frank: You said that last week about Season 8 Episode 4. Dale: You are living in the past Frank. Puff!! Episode 4.

    • Dale: 48 hours! That means I only have (thinks) ... two weeks to live!

    Notes (9)

    • This is the first holiday episode out of the four holiday episodes in the series.

    • Although Chilly Beach isn't part of Canada before this episode, an episode before this said that Chilly Beach was already part of Canada.

    • This is the first, and only, appearance of Dale's brother, Dave.

    • This is the only appearance and mention of Jacques great-great-grandfather.

    • Among other extraneous body parts, Dale grows an extra head that he thinks is Joe Clark.

    • This episode is exactly the same as the previous Secret Santa episode in Season 1.

    • The actual word is surreptitious, which, according to dictionary.com, means "1. obtained, done, made, etc., by stealth; secret or unauthorized; clandestine: a surreptitious glance. 2. acting in a stealthy way. " So titled because the illegal syrupers were stealthily concealing their criminal activities.

    • Highlight: *spoiler* When Constable Al tries to prove that a secret stash is of maple syrup, he tastes it. Unfortunately for him, he didn't read the whole label; it turns out to be "Extra Syrupy Antifreeze"! (He turns grey and winds up in the hospital.)

    • For a second when Constable Al, Frank and Dale are shooting the cannon at the dinosaur, Frank's shirt has a maple leaf on it instead of a ptarmigan.

    • Although they don't use the same names, in this episode the battle of the two teams (Montreal, and Toronto) is sort of reference to the rivalry of the Montreal Canadians and the Toronto Maple Leafs. There is a lot of evidence to this. First off obciously, they are representing the same place. Both of the Jerseys for each team are simualar to the Jersey's that the teams where in real life (same colour). Another thing, Dale where's a Montreal jersey that's number 11 which is the same number as the Montreal Canadians Captain Saku Koivu. Frank, where's a Toronto jersey that's number is 13, which is the same as the leafs captain Mats Sundin.

    • Title alludes to "Invasion of The Bodysnatchers" a horror movie.

    • Song; Love Potion Number nine

    • Title alludes to the hockey term powerplay. When a hockey player is penalized, the opposite team gets to play for a period of time with one more player than their opponents.

    • Refers to beaver tail, as beavers are the animals Abby supposedly got sick from.

    • Title: Pity slickers = city slickers

    • The character "Camela Sanderson" is an allusion to Canadian actress Pamela Anderson.

    • The title "Lord of the Ringettes" comes from the movie "Lord of the Rings".
