  • show Description
  • Set more than five centuries in the future, Cleopatra 2525 revolves around the exploits of three tough and beautiful women in a world that has literally been turned upside down. Monstrous heavily-armored airborne creatures known as the Baileys rule the surface of the Earth and humanity has been driven underground in order to survive. The series' main character, Cleopatra is an exotic dancer who was cryogenically frozen in the year 2001, and then accidentally thawed out in the year 2525 by two female warriors. The three fight together against the evil robots that have taken over the world. The theme music is the song "In the Year 2525" by Zager and Evans, with the following lyrics:In the year 2525 There are women with the will to survive Fighting for a brand new day Nothing's gonna get in their way. And in the year 2525 Three women keep hope alive Joining forces to reclaim the Earth Looking ahead to humankind's rebirth. The show started off as one of two half-hour segments aired together as "Back2Back Action". The other half was Jack of All Trades. When Jack was cancelled, Cleo added its half hour timeslot to its own episodes, for an hour long run time.moreless

  • Quotes (100)

    • Cleopatra: Do you think it's easy to go in for a basic boob job in the year 2001, and wake up five centuries later? Sarge: What's a boob job?

    • Sarge(referring to Horst the Betrayer): Hel, why are all the cute ones robots? I mean, we had some good times together and it turns out he was a machine. Course, that does explain a few things.

    • Cleopatra: I just heard shorty over there talking about killing me! Sarge: 'Shorty'? Cleopatra: Go on, make my day! Sarge: What?!

    • Sarge(referring to Cleo's boob job): So why would anyone get an operation like that? Cleopatra: All right, if those are real congratulations. I on the other hand wasn't so lucky so I had to help nature along a little. Sue me.

    • Creegan: Where's that little homing beacon of yours? Mauser: Hemisphere 5, grid 23 of the neuro-synaptic net. Creegan: What does that mean? (turns to his henchman) You know what that means? Henchman: Uh uh. Creegan: Anyone? Entire Gang: Uh uh. Creegan(as he tears it out of Mauser's head): Why can't you just say IT'S BEHIND MY LEFT EAR!

    • Creegan(broadcasting over Hel's Voice receptor): So, you do carry the Voice. Ya like mine better? Hel: Sounds different. But I guess that's what happens when someone rips out half your throat.

    • Hel: Sarge, go! Sarge: No! All for one and one for nothing, right Cleo?

    • Creegan: I'm upset you're here Hel, but if you tell me more about this Bailey toy of yours perhaps I can rechannel some of my anger.

    Notes (16)

    • Angela Dotchin (Emilia, "Jack of All Trades") was also up for the role of Cleopatra.

    • This episode was included in the DVD set of Seasons 1 and 2 of Sliders, released around the same time as the Cleo 2525 DVD set.

    • Originally the producers had planned to make the show "Amazon High", which has a young woman (played by Monica McSwain) who went back in time, but that version of the show didn't make it beyond the pilot, although the footage was later recycled for the Xena episode "Lifeblood". The producers then twisted the original concept and came up with Cleopatra 2525.

    • Lucy Lawless was approached to do the part of Voice but wasn't able to fit it into her schedule, so the part went to Elizabeth Hawthorne instead.

    • Patrick Kake was a body double for Kevin Sorbo on Hercules the Legendary Journeys before landing the role of Mauser on Cleopatra 2525.

    • One of the bar mutants is wearing a spikey set of armor made for the Xena episode "The Dirty Half Dozen".

    • Jennifer Sky, Victoria Pratt, and Danielle Cormack all played Amazons on the┬áTV show Xena Warrior Princess. Gina Torres appeared on both Xena and Hercules but played Queen Cleopatra and the pirate Nebula rather than an Amazon.

    • This episode was the pilot of the series. Lucy Lawless performed the part of Voice for the episode, but when she couldn't fit the series into her schedule because of Xena, Elizabeth Hawthorne dubbed over her dialogue and took over the role for the rest of the series.

    Trivia (58)

    • Cleopatra has a barcode in her shoulder in this episode which we never see again.

    • Cleo's mimicry talent is never used again in the show. It is brought up in the series finale, but Cleo doesn't use it when asked because she can't mimic the voice of a man.

    • Goof: Mauser tells Creegan that his Voice Receptor is located in his head's fifth hemisphere, but technically speaking, hemisphere is defined as being half of a spherical object, so Mauser's head can only actually have two hemispheres.

    • We learn that Hel's Voice receptor has been implanted behind her left ear.

    • Hel learns for the first time that there are other Voice Teams active out there.

    • "Juice" is the nickname of an inhibition inhibitor. In other words, an aphrodisiac.

    • The symbols on the uniforms of the lab workers are almost all Hebrew letters - although some are upside down.

    • Hel, Sarge and Cleo wear club clothes, rather than their usual outfits.

    Allusions (38)

    • Quest for Fire:
The episode title is an nod to the movie Quest for Fire, in which a pair of Neanderthal cavemen seek out a find a source of fire, and meet a more advanced civilization of Cro-Magnons, which has the tecnnology to produce fire on their own.

    • The Three Musketeers The quote "All for one and one for all" is from the Alexander Dumas novel The Three Musketeers.

    • Dirty Harry & James Bond:
Upon awakening Cleopatra paraphrases the "Make my day" speech from the movie Dirty Harry, then identifies herself as "008," an allusion to the fictional spy James Bond.

    • Cleopatra: Houston, we have a problem. Cleopatra is making reference to a quote made famous by members of the Apollo 13 space mission.

    • Cleo's "Happy Birthday, Mr Mutant" is another JFK allusion, though she is paraphrasing Marilyn Monroe, who had sung a very sexy happy birthday song for the President.

    • Cleopatra: Ask not what others can do for you, but what you can do for others. When Cleo gives Hel and Sarge her "Ask not" speech she is quoting President John F. Kennedy's inauguration speech.

    • When Cleo says they should party like it's 2999 she is referring to the Prince song "1999".

    • Battlestar Galactica and The X-Files Cleopatra also uses referrences to the tv shows Battlestar Galactica and The X-Files to confuse poor Lily.

  • This show has it all- Hot chicks kicking @$$, interesting sci-fi plots, and for those of us who are fans of its Action Pack companions Xena and Hercules you get the same beautiful New Zealand as a backdrop. A little on the cheesy side, but still fun.

  • I feel the problems with this show are with the writing and not the acting. The writers have given the actors nothing to build the character motivation.
