    Notes (39)

    • International air date: Greece: December 21, 2008 on Star

    • On the opening 'credits' it says "Close to Home stars Jennifer Finnigan ("The Bold and the Beautiful", "Committed")" I would suggest a change to Close to Home stars Jennifer Finnigan ("Crossing Jordan", "Committed")

    • Famous actor Emilio Estevez directs the pilot episode of "Close to Home" as a deal he struck with CBS during pilot season.

    • The series is set in the city of Indianapolis, but the show is filmed in Los Angeles.

    • During the filming of the pilot actress Jennifer Finnigan (Annabeth Chase) was credited as a "lead guest-star." She was not a permanent fixture of the cast yet, as she was still under contract with NBC with her 2005 midseason series "Committed." When NBC didn't pick up "Committed" for a second season she was able to stay with the series "Close to Home" when CBS picked it up.

    • This episode, "Miranda" was orginally filmed as the 5th episode of the series, but CBS upgraded it to episode #2 after the pilot.

    • "All things Bright and Beautiful." The hymn heard during the baptism was written by Cecil Frances Alexander in 1848.

    • The song "Rock of Ages" was sung at the beginning of the episode, was written by Augustus M. Toplady, with music by Thomas Hastings. The song was written in the 1700's.

    Trivia (10)

    • At the beginning of the episode Annabeth is writing invitations to Haley's baptism, and we learn that she and her husband are Presbyterians.

    • About 45 minutes into the episode (including commercial time) when the camera looks at the white board and later in the scene when it cuts back to Annabeth, you can clearly see what looks like a hair on the camera lens at the bottom of the screen on the left side.

    • Goof: In this episode, a powerful drug lord targeted a family for execution when the father failed to continue to supply him with chemicals for meth-amphetamines. The wrong family is murdered because of a mistake in addresses. The address of the murdered family is 1651, but the correct address was 1657. These two homes were across the street from each other, but this is unlikely to happen in the real world where addresses alternate odd numbers on one side of the road and even numbers on the other. Hence, 1651 and 1657 would be on the same side of the road, not across from each other. Possible Explanation: The above may be true, but if the houses were on a narrow cul-de-sac, they could be numbered sequentially yet still face each other across the street. Such planning schemes became common in outlying areas of Midwestern cities starting in the late 1940s.

    • Guest star Jeffrey Nordling and show director Emilio Estvez previously worked together on "D3: Mighty Ducks."

    • In this episode we meet Annabeth's College boyfriend, he is the Lawyer defending the man she is prosecuting.

    • Annabeth says that divorcing a guy to marry his brother would make for awkward family reunions. When Jennifer Finnigan (Annabeth) was in The Bold and the Beautiful her character's mother Brooke did just that; she was at some point married to each man in the Forrester family, the father and each of the two sons.

    • Annabeth loses her first case in this episode.

    • Factual Error: The victim, Evan Bennett, is referred to as a "pedophile". This is an error. Pedophiles are people who have a sexual interest in prepubescent children. The girls who were involved in the webcam scheme, while legally under the age of consent, were well into postpuberty, and too old for true pedophiles. The correct medical/psychological term for people with a sexual interest in postpubescent/subadult teenagers is ephebophile.
It's interesting to note than in many countries, it is possible for teenagers to get married while under the age of sexual consent. In one state of the USA, it is possible for boys as young as 13 and girls as young as 12 to marry, although both parental consent and dispensation from a judge is required. This means that it would be possible for a married person to be arrested for posession of child pornography for having intimate photographs of one's own spouse.

  • Again, it figures that a show I enjoy and love to watch gets wacked in favor of dumb new shows. Why do the networks do that? It pisses me off! I hate getting atached to shows because I know dam well and good they'll be gone after a season or 2. It sucks!

  • The program, Close to Home, being in Indiana, really makes me laugh. There is nothing done that closely or minutly reflects any truth of what Indiana is really like. Women and children are second class, protective orders never served. Citizen protection?
