  • Quotes (3)

    • George H. Bush (about the fall of the Berlin Wall): It was emotional for me, but I must confess that I had in mind not overreacting. The stupidest thing that any president could have done then would have been going over there, danced on the Berlin Wall, and stick his fingers right into the eyes of the Soviet military and of Gorbachev. Who knows how they would have had to react?

    • Lech Walesa: I knew that the communist system was finished. The only problem was, what would be the best way to get rid of communism?

    • Frank Joachim Herrman: To imagine that the Soviet Union, after 40 years of alliances, would leave every socialist country to fend for itself and turn its back on them, as if there had never been a brotherly community--this was unheard of.

    Trivia (1)
